January 8 postgame quotes: Justin Williams

On whether special teams play was the difference in the game:
I’m not quite sure what to say. Four goals against again for a team that prides itself on defense is simply inexcusable and something that we’ve tried to clean up and something we need to continue to do because we’re not going to win many games giving up chances like we are.

On facing New York for the first time since the Stanley Cup Final:
It’s clearly another game, nothing else.

On surrendering goals in bunches:
We seem to be in a funk. I think just especially killing penalties, we’re just not getting the clears and the things we’re doing. It’s not from a lack of trying. Guys are working their tails off going as hard as we can. For some reason, throughout the season sometimes, there are ups and downs in certain areas of your game and that’s a down for us now. Regardless, two power play and two even strength, that’s way too many.

On whether traffic in front of the net led to some of New York’s goals:
They did, we let guys walk from seams and shoot. Their second goal against was my line in our zone for an extended period of time, not getting pucks out. Little things add up to big things in hockey games and we all know this. We need to take more pride in them.
