Good morning, Insiders. It’s kind of a big day around these parts, as the first of this season’s two 2014 Stanley Cup Final rematches takes place tonight at Staples Center. It’s different from the Kings’ first title defense, when they played only Western Conference teams after the 2012-13 work stoppage and didn’t face the New Jersey Devils until November, 2013, 17 months after the teams had met in the Final.
So, Jesse Cohen consulted with Rangers blogger Scotty Hockey (not his real name) to preview tonight’s tilt. In our discussion of the Kings and other NHL topics, we somehow got sidetracked into a conversation about the 2002 All-Star Game. There are two recollections I’d like to correct – the game wasn’t a 4-3 win by the “World Team,” it was an 8-5 win, and it was Nikolai Khabibulin, not Jose Theodore who shut the door on North America. I did, however, recall the Jeremy Roenick hit on Alexei Zhitnik correctly, as well as Eric Daze’s MVP. Pat Donahue also guests and returns for Pat’s Movie Minute.
