November 26 postgame quotes: Brown, Jones

Dustin Brown, on whether they “have Minnesota’s number” this season:
The first game in our building, they were much better than they were tonight. We had a timely power play goal there in the first [game]. I think they controlled the possession of the game, but we also played pretty good defense in the first game. They had a lot of shots. They outshot us. They controlled the play, but again they’re hard to play against.

Brown, on having confidence in Martin Jones:
Joner kind of solidified himself last year, the way he came in and played for us when Quickie got hurt for an extended period of time. I think he started his career 8-0. Part of it is our system we have in place and the players that play in front of him. But he comes in and makes big saves and he’s been a part of our group now. Once you’re kind of brought into it, you trust each other.

Brown, on creating offensive opportunities:
I think it was defending our blue line. They’re a big rush team and we defended our blue line very well. Our D had good sticks and created turnovers right at the blue line. We always talk about our turnovers and how we can’t have them happen at the other team’s blue line because it creates odd-mans. My goal and Ty’s goal were a direct result them turning the puck over and then we had good puck movement on the other two.

Brown, on having a good start to the game:
I think our readiness from top to bottom. Joner had to make a couple saves early. He made a big save on the first shift. But we were sharp passing the puck. I think that is probably the biggest telltale sign of how ready we are, is how we pass the puck. When we pass the puck well… I mean Justin’s goal was a result of it D to D, clean break out. When we’re clean passing the puck, we make really good plays that allow us to play in the offensive zone.

Martin Jones, on ending the road trip with a win:
We’ve talked about having more success on the road and tonight was a really good 60 minute effort. It was a good first period. We capitalized on some chances after that. We really did a good job checking them and minimizing their scoring chances.

Jones, on the flurry of saves he made in the first period:
They’re a good quick team, especially down low. They do a lot of quick plays to the net. I was just trying to stay on top of it and hit my spots early. We did a good job in front of the net all night really of picking up sticks and any lateral plays we did a good job eliminating.

Jones, on the team taking only two penalties:
I don’t think there is a coincidence. Take less penalties, it puts less stress on our penalty killers and we’re able to roll four lines and have more energy out there.

Jones, on how he feels after starting back-to-back games:
Yeah, I’ve played back-to-backs before. So I’m used to it.
