November 25 postgame quotes: Doughty, McBain

Drew Doughty, on his goal:
They were playing a one-one-three in their neutral zone which kind of gives you a lot of room to skate. I kind of saw throughout the first two periods that if I had a good opportunity and had some speed that I could probably get through the neutral zone and get to the offensive zone and make a play from there. So I saw a lot of ice, just tried to get the puck on net and I’m happy that went in because I’ve really been trying to pick my spots lately and I’m not scoring goals that way. To get kind of a fluky one between the legs, that feels good.

Doughty, on losing in the shootout:
Not happy with that obviously. Joner played a fantastic game tonight. He was great, especially in the shootout. He gave us like three chances in a row to win there. We’ve got to bear down and we’ve got to score there. Throughout the game, they just had a lot of times where they were pinned in our zone for a long time and had a lot of chances. When that happens, momentum is on their side and our guys get tired. We need to make sure we’re doing that to them rather than us. I think that’s one of the big reason we lost.

Doughty, on the special teams play:
The PK was good. Our power play needs to score goals for us. We had a few chances in the third there. We need to score. But PK was great, it kept us in the game. We took it to the shootout. We know when Weber has probably the best slapshot in the whole league, the best one-timer. He’s going to be the focal point of their power play and we need to take it away. My job is just stay on him and not let him get that shot.

Doughty, on playing against Shea Weber:
Off the ice, he’s a good guy and stuff. When it comes on the ice, I think we have very similar styles. We both really care about the defensive zone. We both play with that grit in our D-zone. When we match up, I know I want to outdo him and he wants to outplay me. That’s just the way it is. Tonight, I guess he got the better of me because they won.

Doughty, on his ice time:
I don’t know what I played yet, but I played a lot in the third and overtime.

Jamie McBain, on whether he is surprised the team has only one road win:
Yeah, it’s surprising especially at just the way the team is built. It’s four lines of guys that keep coming at you each and every game. To see that record is definitely surprising. Being a new guy here, it’s one of those things where I don’t think the guys can put their finger on it quite yet. I think we’re building each and every day. On these road games, especially tonight, we did a lot of good things but we have to clean up things as well.

McBain, on whether scoring his first goal with the team gives him something to build on:
Absolutely, anytime you can contribute on the scoresheet. Especially since that’s something I’m known for since I’ve been in the league is producing, that’s something I want to do for this club. But I think at the same time, I’m getting more comfortable every game with the system, with the group of guys and everything they expect from me. I’m trying to continue to get better each game.
