October 23 postgame quotes: Brown, Kopitar

Dustin Brown, on the club’s defense and special teams:
Well, PK’s been a big part of that. I think that reflects our five-on-five play for the most part. It’s good to see our power play score finally so consistently. [Reporter: What’s been clicking on the power play?] Tonight, I think we need more of that. I mean, you look at the first goal, it’s not a pretty goal. It’s a shot on net with a screen. The one thing as players on the power play, you have to be ready to shoot off the pass, and I don’t think that was the case early on in the season. Tonight, our two goals were guys who ready to shoot.

Brown, on any added incentive to complete the perfect homestand and post the first 6-0 homestand in club history, or whether the team is just looking for two points:
It’s just two points. I don’t know how you guys find these stats. For us, it’s just about trying to get better. It’s early in the year, and we’ve got to gain these points. At the end of the day it’s about getting points early, and it’s important for us to get these now because we know how hard the 82-game season is. Hopefully we can get out of the habit of making it hard on ourselves.

Anze Kopitar, on whether there are aspects of their game they can improve on:
I’m sure we can play better than we did. We all know it’s early in the year, but that shouldn’t be the excuse and we’re going to build on this, work on some stuff and try and get to better.

Kopitar, on how he feels manning the point on the power play:
I feel pretty good. I haven’t done it a long time. Actually, I did it last year at the Olympics for a little bit. But we’re just trying to have moving parts on the power play anyways. It’s not stationary. It’s not like I’m standing on the point just waiting for shots or whatever it is. So we’re just trying to move and throw some different looks at them.

Kopitar, on Jonathan Quick’s performance to become the franchise leader in shutouts:
It really is nothing new. It’s the same old thing over and over again. He’s just solid back there. We try to help him out as much as we can. When breakdowns do happen, he’s back there and he’s saved our butts a bunch of times already and I’m sure he’s going to continue doing that.

Kopitar, on whether there is added incentive to win all six games of their home stand:
Yeah of course, we’ve talked about it before this home stand. We want to have a strong start. We actually talked about it before the season, you want to have a strong start and having seven out of eight at home right off the get go. It’s a good way to start a season and we’re doing a fairly good job right now.

Kopitar, on what he takes away from the win:
It’s definitely not easy hockey against them. They play hard. They have a lot of skill. They can hurt you at pretty much any time. We needed to be sharp. We maybe took a few too many penalties and gave them some chances. But our special teams were pretty good tonight. So we can draw from that, build from that and keep it going.
