October 19 postgame quotes: Jarret Stoll

On the continuation of the penalty kill’s identity:
I think it’s the way our team is, the type of players we have, I think we have a lot of guys who can penalty kill – not only defensively, but in front, too, so we can stay fresh. We should have a lot of line changes on the penalty kill for doing what we’re supposed to be doing. It takes a lot. Number one, it takes good goaltending and making big saves, faceoffs good clears, blocking shots, just a willingness to do it, and we definitely have the guys to do it. You need some puck luck a little bit, too. We’ve been taking a little bit too many penalties, so the last couple wins have been good penalty killing and great goaltending. Yeah, we want to get our five-on-five game going a little bit.

On the approach to killing a late penalty in a close game:
That’s a welcoming situation, I think, and you don’t want to be in those situations, but if you are, you bear down and it almost excites you. If you can kill a penalty to win a game or kill a penalty to get the game to overtime or whatever the case may be, it’s I think the type of guys we have. It’s a welcoming challenge, and you take a lot of pride in that. I think we do that pretty well.

On Jonathan Quick’s performance over the last four games:
It’s been huge. I don’t think we’ve had our game the last little while. We’re winning, but we’re winning maybe on penalty killing and goaltending right now, and we know that. We’ve got to be better in a lot of areas. Yeah, Quickie’s being Quickie, and he’s huge for us again.

On Mike Richards standing up for Anze Kopitar after Christian Folin’s hit:
That’s what our team is all about. That’s what anyone in here would do, and it shows a lot of how we care about each other. Whoever gets hit, whether it’s Kopi or Willie or Brownie or whoever, that should be happening, and those are penalties we’re going to kill off, definitely. No question about that.
