June 16 parade quotes: Darryl Sutter

On the difference between this year’s parade and the 2012 parade:
I think the guys are enjoying themselves. A little different than last time. I think the players are more in the celebration part of it last time, But this time they were more taking it all in.

On how much the team loves playing together:
They don’t love it that much because they could have been playing tonight and this is not playing.

On how special this Stanley Cup feels:
It’s special. I told the players that. We’ll talk about it again…tomorrow. The way our team did it last time probably won’t ever happen again, and the way it happened this time with this team. It’s two different teams and you just try and go win it again.

On winning two Stanley Cups in just three years:
That’s what you’re supposed to try and do. But again, I go back to the whole process of what it takes to get in and not defeat yourself.

On whether he thought winning two Cups was possible when he became head coach:
No, the team was in 12th place. I was in the middle of the winter feeding 800 head of cattle and my family was living four hours away and I was being paid to do that. You don’t say ‘no’ because someone offered you a job…I was in a position of whether I wanted to win or not and whether I thought we could. It’s not that hard to figure out.

On the offseason schedule:
I went to work yesterday. I started working on some schedule stuff. Players will do all their medical stuff tomorrow, then I’ve got a lot of meetings. I really don’t have a timeframe on it. Just get as much done as they can. Then management sort of gets into the draft part of it, so I’ll get the coaches together and we’ll try to get as much done together after our medical. See where we’re at with the league. One thing about it, we’re into a normal schedule. The year we won it, even though we thought we were in a normal schedule, it was a lockout schedule. Last year, we played until the middle of June last year too, and then with the Olympics, it stretched everything out again. So now we’re into an actual schedule where we know our training camp date. It’s not extra days because of the Olympics. Now the guys can see how we’re going to set training up because obviously we have to shut some guys down for a while, that’s for sure. We’ll see how that goes and get into that.
