Doughty, Gaborik, Kopitar preview Game 4

Drew Doughty, on whether he expects a lower scoring Game 4:
Yeah I would. Our type of game is the lower scoring, not giving up a lot of goals kind of game. They’re team likes to put pucks in the net. We need to make sure we keep them off the offense, keep the puck, have possession, keep the puck in the offensive zone. The less time we spend in the D-zone the better. It’s going to be a low scoring one and that’s the type of game we want to play.

Doughty, on why this series lacks the distractions of the Eastern Conference Final:
I think in the West, we play these playoff types of games all the time. The West is a lot more physical, a lot more of a grind than the East. We’re just used to playing these types of games. We shy away from the stuff after the whistle. We play as hard as possible between the whistles. As much as we want to beat the other team, we have respect for the other team and we’re not going to take any cheap shots or anything like that.

Doughty, on the play of Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli:
They’re doing a good job. I really see them evolving as good players. Both of them are trying to get better in the D-zone, which we need. I think Toff has been great for us defensively as well. Obviously Carts is doing a good job at leading the way, helping them out there. We need them to be that line for us. We can’t rely on Kopi’s line to get all the points. We need to be getting points from every single line and we count on every single guy on every single line to get points for us. We know that everyone can do that too.

Marian Gaborik, on how he views Game 4:
You have to take the same approach as we did last game. Obviously they’re a good team. They’ve been down in a series before. We have to make sure that we have a good start, a better start than we had last game. We just have to stay out of the box, that’s the bottom line. We can’t give them power plays like we did last game because it can cost us.

Gaborik, on the Tanner Pearson, Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli line:
Those guys have been on fire the whole series. They’ve been kind of carrying us through this series. Hopefully they can keep it up. With Jeff in the middle there and those guys on the wings, they have a lot of speed and they’ve been good in all three zones. They’re doing a great job for us.

Gaborik, on whether the plan when facing Corey Crawford is the same as with any other goalie:
Yeah, I think so. We can ask any other goalie in the league if he feels traffic in front of him, if he feels bodies, if he feels pushed in the blue paint. It just makes them feel uncomfortable. So that’s what we have to do. Even on the power play, just crowd the net and get that slot presence and just keep pounding pucks on him.

Gaborik, on whether it is important to get the first goal:
It’s important to get the first goal, but it’s not the end of the world [if we don’t]. Like I said, we have to have a better start than we did the last game and just keep working on it obviously. You take a penalty, that creates momentum for the other team. We just have to stay out of the box and play our game five-on-five.

Anze Kopitar, on whether his role has changed playing against Jonathan Toews:
It hasn’t really changed a whole lot. I mean we played against Couture and Thornton in the first round. We played against Getzlaf in the second round. They’re all great offensive players. It hasn’t really changed a whole lot. Going against Toews, he’s obviously one of the best centers, if not the best center in the league, and you pay attention a little bit to that. At the same time, you play your own game.

Kopitar, on the power play:
It’s probably just keeping it simple. We’ve managed to get the puck to the net. I think in the first game we were getting shots but they were blocking a lot of shots. So now we’re just getting it there and getting some traffic in front of the goalie and we’re able to score a few.

Kopitar, on whether he has talked to Marian Gaborik about going deep into the playoffs:
He’s been to the conference finals a couple years ago. He’s been here. I haven’t really talked to him about it. I don’t think it’s the time to do it now. He has obviously fit in really well with us. He’s playing good.
