May 18 postgame quotes: Kopitar, Toffoli

Anze Kopitar, on what adjustments they can make for Game 2:
They’re a good team obviously. I think right down the lineup they’re pretty solid, obviously. We’re going to have to do a better job of checking, of not giving up timely goals and score a few more ourselves.

Kopitar, on the team’s energy level:
Yeah, I thought it was good energy. I thought we were rolling the four lines pretty well. Again, had some chances but we’re going to have to make it harder on their goalie. [Reporter: Were you surprised it wasn’t a more emotional game?] No, I think it was a hard-fought game. I think there were some hits, there was some good play and we just have to make sure we’re better in Game 2.

Kopitar, on whether the officials said anything about Alec Martinez’s penalty against Brandon Bollig:
No, nothing. We have to focus on what we can control. You said it, clearing the puck is a big part of the penalty kill and we weren’t able to do it.

Kopitar, on if he feels they played well enough to win the game:
We had the chance. But we didn’t bear down enough and that third goal was a timely goal for them and obviously at a bad time for us. We have to make sure we’re better in Game 2.

Tyler Toffoli, on his shot that hit the post on the breakaway:
I had an open net. It just kind of slid off my stick. It’s just one of those things that happens once in a while. But I have to regroup. I can’t do that. I have to score and that’s my job – to score goals. I have to get that back for us next game.

Toffoli, on his goal in the second period:
It’s good neutral zone. Carts made a good pass to Pears and Pears drove wide and I was open there. I just chipped it over his glove.

Toffoli, on what was learned from the game:
I think we’re good enough. I don’t think we need to back down. I think we have to keep pushing the pace, keep playing hard. Like I said, we have to win Game 2 and go back to Staples and just keep playing well.
