May 14 postgame quotes: Anaheim

Cam Fowler, on the difference in the game:
They capitalized on a couple opportunities and we knew that they were going to come out with a strong push. It just seems that whoever gets the first goal in this series is able to create a lot of momentum. I thought our guys did a great job of battling and unfortunately we just couldn’t crack them one more time, but we’ve got another opportunity Game 7 in our home building.

Fowler, on their power play:
I think our execution wasn’t quite where we wanted it to be and I made some mistakes out there. I felt like I rushed a few pucks a couple times. It just seemed like we were a little out of sync. I thought our last couple power plays were good. I had a grade-A scoring chance, Quick made an unbelievable save. So I wish I had that one back, but we’ll figure it out and it’ll be better in Game 7.

Fowler, on being confident heading into Game 7:
We’re a resilient group and we have a lot of belief in ourselves. We knew how difficult it was going to be to come in here and get a win. We felt like we could do it and we didn’t get the job done, but our guys will respond and we’ll be ready to go.

Fowler, on Jonathan Quick:
He’s a world class goalie. That’s why he was our Olympic starter. That’s why he’s won a cup, a Conn Smythe, you name it. He was great. I felt like we could test him a little bit more, but he made the stops when he needed to.

Fowler, on his missed opportunity on the power play:
I felt like there was no way that he saw that puck. I put it where I wanted to and he made an unbelievable save. Those are times where as a shooter, I need to bear down and just try to blow it by them. I’ve got to tip my cap to him on that one. I’ll try to solve him next time.

John Gibson, on Trevor Lewis’ goal:
I made a mistake and it went in and we lost 2-1. [Reporter: Were you screened by your defenseman?] No, I should have had it. I missed it and that’s the game.

Gibson, on his mindset heading into Game 7:
I think that’s why you work so hard in the regular season, to get a game like this at home. I think we’re excited to go home. Obviously it would’ve been nice to win tonight, but we get one more chance.

Kyle Palmieri, on Los Angeles being the more desperate team:
Yeah, they’ve been in the situation before and they know what to do with a lead. It was tough to get in and get opportunities on them. Overall, if it was just the start or something, it wasn’t a full 60 minute effort from us and we’re going to be better.

Palmieri, on having home ice for Game 7:
It will be huge and we’ll hopefully get off to a good start. Get that first goal that’s been so important in the series.

Palmieri, on Los Angeles’ play in elimination games:
I don’t think we really looked into it too much. We know they’re a team that can play with their backs against the wall. They did it in the first round against San Jose. We didn’t play a full effort tonight, but we were ok and they played really well.

Bruce Boudreau, on the series going to Game 7:
It shouldn’t windup that way, but it’s going to.

Boudreau, on recovering from the loss:
We’ve recovered now. We’re ready to play. They beat us. It’s a tough series. It’s a great team we’re playing, but to think it’s devastating is ludicrous.

Boudreau, on what it will take to win Game 7:
I think what it’s going to take is someone getting a lucky bounce and holding onto the lead. Like I said, they’re a very good team and they know how to play with the lead. We’re going to need 20 players playing the best game you can play on both sides. There can be no passengers on the next game.

Boudreau, on the power play:
It stunk. I don’t know how many… did we get any shots on the five attempts? Nothing A-1, we didn’t move the puck very well and we didn’t support very well. We’ve been good for the most part, but it’s back to the drawing board with that.

Boudreau, on his team’s performance:
I wouldn’t think that everyone played their best game. Maybe it’s due to them playing well as well.

Boudreau, on the players knowing they have home ice for Game 7:
They wanted to win tonight. You never want to wait until the seventh game, look at what happened to Boston. You want to win it when you can. We didn’t get it done, but we’ll get better and we’ll get ready. We’ll have a hell of a game Friday.

Boudreau, on the importance of getting the first goal in the series:
Both teams know how to play with a lead. So when you get that first goal, it takes so much effort to push back and get two. It’s an important issue. I would venture to guess that they talked about it for the last two days about getting the first goal and getting the lead after the first period.
