May 11 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

On whether he has “any idea” on who will draw the Game 4 start in net:
No, I don’t have any idea.

On Game 3 positives, and whether he reinforces any need to “stay the course”:
Yep, that’s a good way of looking at it. I mean, it’s not very often that you hold a team to zero shots in a period or three in a third period. But, quite honest, if you look at the two games that have been played other than the overtime game, and you take out the real low scoring chance one, which was Game 3, the team that scored first basically outshot the other team by a lot, and the result was the opposite, the high shooting team didn’t win. Both games, take the overtime game out because you get an extra period, so there were a lot more shots and attempts, but if you look at Game 2, Anaheim really outshot us and we won, and in Game 4 we really outshot them and lost. It’s the way it goes.

On Anaheim’s recent power play success:
Yeah, they scored two four-on-three goals, one bad turnover goal, and then an empty net goal basically last night. The adjustments are you don’t want to be four-on-three against them, and you don’t want to give them the puck back in the neutral [zone] so that Teemu has an empty netter tap in, and then last night’s a bad goal. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10-on-8. It’s a bad goal.

On the frequency of outshooting the opposition and losing:
We’ve done that a lot this year. Ask guys that have seen us play lots. We’ve seen a lot of those 50-to-20 deals. [Reporter: And I guess that helps you now this time of year, just because you guys won’t get rattled by it?] Yeah, I’m not rattled. I’m just thankful I’m alive today. I’m fortunate to pull through after the devastating loss last night. [Reporter: Well, you are still sitting.] Barely. They had to get me up off – Radar and Hawkeye had to get me up to come here today.

On whether Anaheim’s shot blocking tendencies set them apart from other teams:
No, they’re just like us.

On whether the Kings will try to get shots early against John Gibson and Anaheim:
I think we were really good at that last night, but it’s not just ‘OK, let’s go shoot the puck at the goalie.’ That’s not the way it works. You can’t get it between second and shot and second and first and short and third. There’s a little bit more going on there. [Reporter: Do you show the guys more film on Gibson?] No, jeez. We watch film more than you do.

On whether he has any special plans for Mother’s Day:
Oh no, I’m going to go watch some video on Gibson. [Reporter: Because you called your mom already?] Yeah, I did. But she was in church. I should’ve known to call later. That’s the last thing I told the players. Make sure they talk to their moms or a mother in their life today.
