May 8 morning skate quotes: Williams, Doughty, Muzzin

Justin Williams, on having an extra day between games:
The way I look at the last two days is resulting how we come out tonight. I’m the kind of guy that just wants to get after it right away. I’d rather play seven in a row. Obviously that’s not feasible, but the couple days were good. We’re back on home ice where we’re comfortable and we’re going to need a huge effort to get a win.

Williams, on not taking the series lead for granted:
It’s pretty easy because we were down 3-0 in the last series. So it’s very easy not to get comfortable and to know that anything is possible. It’s only two games. A lot of teams have come back from two games in any playoff series and we need to keep our heads down.

Williams, on winning the first two road games for the fifth time with L.A.:
Every playoff series is different. You go through a lot as a team and this is just something else that we’re going through together. It’s another playoff series that we feel we should win.

Drew Doughty, on being considered a veteran defenseman at 24 years old:
This is my sixth year in the league. I know I’m still kind of young, but I don’t feel young. I feel older. I have more of a responsibility on this team. I want to be that guys that’s a leader and someone for the young guys to look up to. I enjoy being in this position. It sucks being the young guy, just kind of being picked on and what not. I’m happy that I could finally take on this leadership role and help the team win games.

Jake Muzzin, on Los Angeles’ success in limiting second chances:
They’ve got some big guys who are going to get to the net, so we were trying to do our best to box them out, get under sticks and look for those loose pucks that squirt off Quickie…to clear them before Anaheim gets it on him. They got a lot of shots in the first two games, and we’re looking to eliminate some of those tonight.

Muzzin, on anticipating Anaheim’s best game:
Yeah, this is a huge game tonight. You know they’re going to pour everything they have on us tonight. Game 3, they’re down 2-0, so tonight’s a huge game for us. We’ve got to stay focused, continue getting better, and not be satisfied with being two-up. I mean, obviously it takes four to win, so we’ve got to push for a big win tonight.

Muzzin, on having an extra day between games:
It is what it is. You deal with it, but it’s nice to get into every-other-day, where you play, rest, play, rest so you get into a little groove there. But it’s fine.

Muzzin, on limiting opponents to two goals or less for five straight games:
Yeah. It’s a full team defense and team effort. Obviously the start of the San Jose series wasn’t what we liked to do, giving up all those goals. But we’ve looked at some stuff and regrouped and we’ve done a pretty good job defending from then. Like I said, it’s a full team defense. It takes everyone, and obviously having Quickie in net is huge for us. [Reporter: You said you looked at something in Game 3. Since Game 3 of the San Jose series, things have gotten really better defensively. What was it that you guys noticed that you changed?] Some stuff. Just some stuff, man. That’s about it.

Muzzin, on whether Joe Thornton prepared him well to face Ryan Getzlaf:
I mean, they’re both really good hockey players. They’re both, skilled players who see the ice well, pass well. Maybe one’s got a little bit better this and that. It helped maybe a little bit. They’re both very, very good hockey players that you have to be aware of when they’re on the ice.
