Doughty, Stoll preview Game 3

Drew Doughty, on what Los Angeles expects from Game 3:
They’re going to be looking for a win obviously here in Game 3 to kind of start feeling good about themselves again. We have to put that away. We need to go up 3-0 and this is the most important game so far.

Doughty, on the turning point in the San Jose series:
I don’t know exactly what turned it. I think they kind of got a lucky goal in Game 3. We thought we deserved better than that game and we then took it upon ourselves to make sure we didn’t put ourselves in that situation again and just took over the series.

Doughty, on Jonathan Quick:
He’s just making big saves when he needs to. I don’t think we’re giving him too, too many hard saves to make, but when they are breakaways or bad bounces he’s always there to make that save. He’s made some huge ones for us at the right times. That’s what Quickie does and he’s been playing great for us and his rebound control has been good too. They’re not getting any second opportunities and that means he’s either covering it or his rebounds are going to the corners. He’s playing great for us and we need him to play great for the rest of the playoffs if we want to go all the way.

Doughty, on avoiding unnecessary hits:
I’m always aware of that. I’m the first to dodge hits. I’m not going to take a hit for no reason. If I take a hit to make a play, I’m going to do that. But if I can make the play and dodge the hit, I’m going to do it every time. I really don’t care what any says about that. I’m going to dodge every hit I possibly can.

Doughty, on remaining focused after winning the first two games:
Just being up 3-0 sounds a lot better than being up 2-1 because if you’re up 2-1 it only takes one game to tie up the series. Then you’re going all the way back to the other team’s arena, especially because we’re starting on the road every series. It’s so important for us to go up 3-0 right now. We have this mentality of its one game at a time obviously, and if you’re up 2-1 the games after that get much harder. Not that it’s easier being up 3-0, but it’s more comfortable.

Doughty, on good teams having a “killer instinct”:
Yeah, of course and we have that kind of bad opportunity right now. This isn’t the end all be all game, but it really is a stepping stone to being in that game. We have that killer instinct in here and we have to show that in the next game because if we let up for any second, that’s the difference in the game and that’s the difference between winning and losing. We know exactly what we have to do.

Jarret Stoll, on avoiding overconfidence with a two-nothing series lead:
You know what history says. A two-nothing lead is great, but it’s not four wins. We know that better than anybody, and we also know we haven’t played our best hockey to date. They’re a great team over there. They’ve out-chanced us. They’ve beaten us in a lot of areas where we need to be better at. We know that. That’s what we’ve been talking about the last couple days. We’ve been working on some things this morning. We’ll be better at home. We can’t wait to play in front of our fans in Game 3. It’s going to be fun in there.

Stoll, on where Los Angeles can improve:
I think beating their forecheck, getting back to pucks quicker below our goal line., not spending so much time down there, because it’s tough hockey down there. It’s battles, and every little inch down there is contested for. You lose that inch, you lose that foot, it’s a scoring chance. For our liking, they’ve got too many good quality scoring chances on Quickie, and he’s been there, obviously, to make some key saves at key times in the game. We need him in those points in the game, but not that often.

Stoll, on Anaheim’s forecheck:
They’re quick. They read off each other really well. They’re very aggressive. They get two guys down to the goal line very quickly on our defensemen. If we’re not going to support our defensemen like we should, we’re going to get outmanned and out-supported. The key is to out-support their forecheck in those situations. Come up with the pucks, and get it going the other way. Everybody wants to play in the offensive zone. That’s the whole battle. That’s the whole series right there. That’s one of the areas we need to get better at, and there’s a couple of them.
