May 5 postgame quotes: Dustin Brown

On getting into Anaheim’s head:
I can’t really say to their mental state at this time. I think it’s safe to say that we understand that we need to be a lot better. We found a way to squeak one out because we have the best goalie in the world in our goal. They had the better chances, more shots, more opportunities. Again, Jon Quick gave us an opportunity to find a way to win a game that they were all over us, especially in the second half of the second. We found a way, again, because of Jon we found a way to win.

On the team’s defensive play:
I think historically over the last four or five years we’ve been very, very good at holding leads. But again, tonight they had way too many chances for us to continue to play like we did tonight. We won’t get the same results.

On what adjustments need to be made:
Again, at this time of the year it’s about focusing on the next game. We’ve all been through this before. It’s just little minor adjustments. At the end of the day, were a team that needs four lines, six D and a goalie. It’s just everyone elevating their game by 10, 15 percent. Again, we’ll look at the tape and find adjustments we need to make, but at the end of the day it’s just about our efforts.

On how the team responded to the slash on the back of Drew Doughty’s leg:
It’s playoffs. You do anything you have to do to get an edge. Obviously Drew is a world class defenseman, you have to try to get him off his game anyway you can try to. But I think he’s played in big enough games and you’re not one of the best defensemen if that stuff bugs you. It’s something that he’s going to have to deal with and our top guys always have to deal with that type of stuff, especially this time of year.

On Jeff Schultz:
I thought he was awesome. Not a lot of guys are – I don’t know if he played a game this year or not, I can’t recall… but he’s been in the big series with Washington throughout his career early on. For a guy who hasn’t been really with us all year, I thought he stepped in and played really well. Just made the simple plays and really well on the defensive side of the puck. When guys go down, it’s opportunities for guys to step up and play and I thought he was awesome.
