May 5 postgame quotes: Alec Martinez

On “being in the groove” like they were in 2012:
I don’t know. I think Darryl stresses no one has to be great, everyone just has to be good. Right now, we’re getting big plays out of a lot of different guys and maybe that’s been the difference the past six games. I think we just have to learn from our mistakes tonight and learn what we did well and hopefully roll it in once we go back home.

On how the team responded to losing Willie Mitchell and Robyn Regehr:
Losing those two guys, you’re not going to replace either of them. Just with one guy, everyone needs to step up. I think that we’ve got a lot of depth on D and that’s helped out a lot and I think the whole team has just kind of rallied together and played a team game. Obviously last game going down to five D, that’s a team adjustment. Forwards doing a good job getting the puck in and their attention to detail allowed us a change to get in a rotation. I can’t say enough about Schultzy tonight. He stepped in and he’s a proven NHL-er. He played a heck of a hockey game for us. I think it’s just more of the whole team has to elevate their game.

On his game-winning goal:
I think Tyler was cycling it down low. He might have come from behind the net, not sure, but Carts was right there in the slot and it was actually a heck of a play by Carts. I think he must have heard me calling for it and he let it go between his legs and I was able to get a fortunate bounce and get it in. It was a great play by them. I was just kind of the benefactor.
