May 3 media availability: Kopitar, Brown

Anze Kopitar, on the time off between the first and second round:
It’s a little bit of a waiting game, but it’s also nice to get a couple days and settle down again and prepare and get ready for tonight.

Kopitar, on resetting after the first round:
It takes a day or two, but then you want to get it going again. Especially because we feel like we were playing pretty good the last couple of games, so you want to get back at it again.

Kopitar, on whether momentum will carry over to this series:
I don’t know about momentum. Yeah, I guess the confidence factor is there too. Again, we played some pretty good hockey towards the end of that series so we just want to carry it and build on it into the next one.

Kopitar, on any special meaning behind this series:
No. It’s just normal routine, normal preparation. Nothing special.

Kopitar, on Dustin Brown’s performance raising in the playoffs:
I think ever since he came back from Sochi he had a little bit of step in his game. He’s been playing good hockey and he’s been taking it to the next level, as usual, in the playoffs. It’s obviously great to see him because we need him playing that way.

Kopitar, on using size to their advantage against Anaheim:
I don’t think we’re going to play any different than we did the first series. I think they’re built pretty similar. They have some big bodies and lots of skill, obviously, throughout their lineup. Our game is not going to change a whole lot. We’re just going to try and do the exact same thing as our plan was in the first series. [Reporter: Except maybe not fall behind 0-3?] That would be a yes. [Reporter: So not the exact same way.] Yeah, but if we did that four series in a row I’d take it too. I would play that many games. I don’t care.

Dustin Brown, on resetting after the first playoff series:
It’s nothing that we really haven’t been through before. I think the nature of how we came back last series is different, but over the last few years we’ve won a lot of series and had to reset pretty quickly. It’s just something you kind of get used to.

Brown, on the importance of getting a win early in the series:
Coming down here, getting ready, it’s just about getting off to a good start. It’s your goal at the beginning of every series. I think the momentum – everybody talks about momentum this time of year – it’s a new series and I think we kind of have to start fresh and go from there. But obviously we don’t want to start how we did last series.

Brown, on the playoff series developing the Los Angeles-Anaheim rivalry:
I think this will definitely help the process along. The teams we have our biggest rivalries with are definitely not the Ducks and that’s a result of not playing in the playoffs. I don’t think, at least not yet, it compares to the Sharks, Canucks and Blues.

Brown, on gaining confidence after coming back in the last series:
I think it just reassures our beliefs in ourselves and in each other. If you look at our team historically, we’ve maybe not put ourselves in a 3-0 hole like that. Even correlating that to the regular season, we always find a way to make it difficult and find a way to dig ourselves out. So I think that just reassures our belief system and each other.

Brown, on how he is able to elevate his game for the playoffs:
I think first and foremost, it probably doesn’t take much to elevate from the regular season that I had. But in saying that, this is the type of time you want to step your game up and this is the fun part of the year to play well and be a part of. At the end of the day, it’s just about trying to help our team win and if everyone can crank it up just a notch collectively it makes a big difference.

Brown, on Anze Kopitar’s game in the first round:
I think that’s just Kopi becoming the player that a lot of people probably don’t know that he is. I play with him, been with since he came into the league, so it’s nice to finally see him get some credit. His game is not about points at the end of the day. He’s one of those guys that has an effect on the game in all aspects, but he obviously came up huge on the goal scoring aspect of it. He scored big goals at big times.

Brown, on whether not knowing the opposing goaltender changes is concerning:
Not really. We’ve played both goaltenders. We know both goaltenders. It is what it is. We’ll find out at five o’clock. Like I said, it’s not like it’s an unknown entity. We’ve played against both goalies this year. If it’s five extra minutes of preparation, it’s not a big deal.
