April 20 postgame quotes: Darryl Sutter

On what led to the momentum swing and the lopsided loss:
I think probably their Sheppard line and Desjardins line dominated the second period. We didn’t have an answer for that.

On what is different with this year’s San Jose team:
Well, they finished ahead of us in the standings – I think about 10 points or something. Obviously it gives them home ice, which is a big advantage.

On whether it’s more difficult to motivate a team when trailing 2-0 in a series:
I don’t think so. I think our players obviously in Game 1 weren’t happy with the way they played, and tonight I think that we have to answer back in terms of going home.

On Jonathan Quick’s performance:
I thought he was fine tonight. He’ll tell you that he struggled in the first game.

On whether anything changed when Joe Pavelski moved to center:
I don’t think he played there that much tonight.

On when he made the decision to use seven defensemen, and why it was made:
The decision was made at game time when a couple guys – we didn’t know if they’d get through the game.

On the balance of the end result being influenced by San Jose or Los Angeles:
Probably both. As I said, when you scale it out, when you do third and fourth lines, our players that are playing against those guys have to do a better job, and that’s clear.
