Quick not bothered by Brown’s drive to the net

The Kings and Sharks’ emotions spilled over five minutes into Game 1.

Driving hard to the net on an angle down the right wing, Mike Brown’s heavy contact with Slava Voynov set off a chain reaction in which momentum sent Voynov into Quick, who forcefully fell backwards to the left of the goalmouth. All 10 players, plus Quick, then engaged each other in a heated scrum that ultimately resulted in even strength play.

Brown was assessed a goaltender interference minor, and at practice on Friday, Quick did not find any fault with the path to the net the San Jose energy forward had taken.

“I said it the other day, it’s where goals are scored,” Quick said. “So he was going to the area where goals are scored.”

Quick, on Game One being an uncharacteristic game for the team:
They’re a good team. They created some chances. They got the bounces and they get the two at the end of the first where both guys are trying to shoot the puck and they fan on it and it’s an open net for them. I am a believer that you make your own luck, so obviously they made their own luck there.

Quick, on scoring three goals in the third period:
It says that we didn’t quit. It’s 5-0 and we didn’t quit. We’re still trying to work out. It’s a series, that’s why they call it a series. It’s seven games long. No matter what the score is, you’re still trying to play your best and trying to get a piece of the other guy. We’re on them a little bit for the next game.

Quick, on how the third period comeback affects the team’s mentality:
Well it’s a loss. You lost the game. We’ve lost lots of games. We’ve won lots of games. So, you chalk it up as a loss and you move on and try to win the next game.

Quick, on what he would like to see in practice on Friday and Saturday:
Just like every other practice. We’re a team that doesn’t take days off. We come in and we work. We just have to keep working.

Quick, on any surprise at how “spirited” Friday’s practice was:
No. I don’t think so. We know it’s a series. It takes four to win. We came to work. So you have a bad day, tomorrow you’re going to go in and do your job, right? So that’s what we did. We came in and we did our job.
