March 27 postgame notes

-With the win, Los Angeles improved to 71-58-21 all-time against Pittsburgh, a record that includes an away mark of 26-40-11. The Kings snapped a three-game road losing streak in the series and won their first game in Pittsburgh since October 3, 2003. Thursday’s game was the 150th game all-time between the 1967 expansion teams.

-Los Angeles tied a franchise record with its eighth consecutive road win. The Kings also won eight consecutive road games between December 18, 1974 and January 16, 1975. The franchise record for the longest consecutive road point streak is 11 games, set between October 10, 1974 and December 11, 1974. The Kings haven’t lost on the road since a 3-0 setback at Phoenix on January 28.

-Los Angeles has won five straight overall and is 13-3-0 since February 6.

-The Kings won their 43rd game of the year, which is three wins shy of the club record of 46 wins, which was accomplished in 1990-91, 2009-10 and 2010-11. Los Angeles was on pace for 46 wins in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

-The Kings’ 22 road wins is two wins shy of the club record of 24, set in 2009-10.

-The win was the 1,498th win in Kings history.

-Los Angeles finished the season with a 21-8-3 record against the Eastern Conference and an 11-4-1 record against the Metropolitan Division.

-With a 7-for-7 penalty killing performance, the Kings have killed 21 of the last 23 power plays.

-Anze Kopitar has 17 points (6-11=17) in the last 17 games.

-Alec Martinez has 11 points (7-4=11) in the last 13 games.

-Drew Doughty – who was credited with the game-winning goal – scored for the first time since registering a power play goal in a 5-3 loss to Chicago on February 3 and snapped a 15-game goalless streak. There is a possibility that Doughty’s goal may be awarded to Jarret Stoll.

-Willie Mitchell played his 199th game as a King.

-Los Angeles attempted 52 shots (32 on net, 10 attempts blocked, 10 missed). Pittsburgh attempted 64 shots (37 on net, 16 attempts blocked, 11 missed). Matt Niskanen finished with a game-high seven shots on goal as part of 13 attempted shots. Justin Williams finished with a team-high four shots on goal.

-The Kings won 30-of-58 faceoffs (52%). Among regular performers, Mike Richards won 5-of-11, Anze Kopitar won 8-of-15, Trevor Lewis won 1-of-5, Jarret Stoll won 13-of-19 and Jeff Carter won 3-of-7.

Friday, March 28 is an off-day for the Kings. The team’s next practice is the 10:00 a.m. morning skate on Saturday, March 29.
