Good morning, Washington

Good morning from the nation’s capital, where a winter weather advisory is in effect until 3:00 p.m. We’re near the southern end of a fairly powerful storm that is pushing northeast and is expected to drop up to six inches of snow on Cape Cod and Down East Maine by tomorrow, and in Washington we’re expected to be hit by somewhere in the ballpark of two inches by this afternoon. Temperatures are climbing above freezing, which will potentially melt whatever accumulation takes place downtown.

The team didn’t experience any weather – or deicing, or ground delays – when they boarded a train at 30th St. Station in Philadelphia after last night’s win over the Flyers and traveled for 90 minutes south through Southeastern Pennsylvania, Wilmington and Baltimore and into Washington’s Union Station. It was an enjoyable change of pace and afforded Jim Fox the opportunity to drop a travel/sports double entendre.

HIGHLIGHTED LOCAL ARTIST. Dave Chappelle is from Washington D.C. Unfortunately, all Dave Chappelle clips on the internet contain either profanity or adult situations and are not at all appropriate for a Tuesday edition of Good Morning, Washington. In my relatively light research of notable artists, it has become clear that there are many interesting people who spent periods in their lives in the District but were not native to the area. I’m choosing one of those transplants. Here is Natalie Portman, who emigrated from Israel with her parents and lived in Washington before settling in Rob Scuderi’s hometown of Syosset, New York.

Ac-ting. This movie had like 45 minutes of Jar Jar Binks, in case you forgot.

Instead of heading to the arena, the Kings will hold meetings in the hotel this afternoon. Tonight’s starting goaltender and line pairings against the Washington Capitals aren’t likely to be revealed until the team hits the ice for warm-ups. As always, there’s lots more to come on a game day. Stay tuned for Waking up with the Kings.
