March 24 postgame quotes: Justin Williams

On the win:
I thought we obviously took the game over in the second. They got an early goal off a weird deflection and all the sudden, uh oh, we have a good chance to win this game and come back. That’s the game of hockey. There are bounces here and there and the emotion of a game can turn with one play.

On scoring shortly after the team shook off a no-goal call and killed off a five-on-three:
Sometimes it just feels like justice. I didn’t particularly agree with the call, but then they got a five-on-three and we killed it off. Again, the game could’ve gone either way there. Instead of maybe being 1-1 on their five-on-three, we’re able to get it 2-0 heading into the third.

On winning the first game of a back-to-back:
Game one is nice, but it’s nice playing on the East Coast. We don’t have to fly. We’re going to take a train there, so that’s nice.

On Jeff Carter:
There is an added incentive any time you play your former team, especially the way things ended here. I know he wanted this game bad. He played well. He used his wheels well and he did what he’s capable of.

On developing chemistry with Marian Gaborik:
I still think it’s a work in progress for sure. We’re coming from very different teams and Gabby is used to playing one way and we need to find something with each other. I think we’re getting there. There are flashes of it, but we need to continue to get better and develop that even more.

On how skating with Marian Gaborik is different:
He’s just so explosive. Sometimes when you don’t think you should give him the puck, you should give it to him because he’s going to beat his guy. His first three strides are one of the best in the league and they have been for 10 years. A little bit more talk is going to help out there, but we’re working it and I’m hopeful it’ll be something pretty to watch for a long time. [Reporter: Do you feel that coming?] Absolutely, Gabby is a great guy and he’s fit in perfectly with our group so far. I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work out.
