March 10 morning skate quotes: Doughty, Williams

Drew Doughty, on Martin Jones:
He doesn’t seem like he gets nervous. He just goes out there and does his thing and he’s a great guy off the ice. Everyone loves him and has played great for us so far.  [Reporter: Are you surprised at how well he’s done?] Well yeah, he came up and his first game he played unbelievable – won in a shootout. After that he just kept rolling and rolling. Obviously he knew in the back of his mind that Quickie was going to come back and it was going to be tough to keep that number one job, but he did an unbelievable job.

Doughty, on the proposed coach’s challenge rule:
Eh, I don’t know. I don’t think so. I like the way the game is organized right now. They’re trying to make all these changes and stuff like that, but I don’t see any problems with how things are. Refs make calls. Sometimes they’re the right calls, sometimes they’re not. That’s just part of the game.

Doughty, on the eliminating the shootout for three-on-three overtime:
I think that’d be kind of cool – going three-on-three. It kind of sucks to lose in a shootout because anyone could win the shootout – it’s not always the better team that’s going to win. I think three-on-three would be kind of interesting, but either way I’ll be happy with it.

Justin Williams, on whether Marian Gaborik’s presence affords the team different looks from the opposition:
When you play with Kopi you’re usually getting tough opponents either way you look at it. With Gabby, we’re talking a lot more out there and we’re trying to get something going. Last night certainly wasn’t a great game for us. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but hopefully we can score and produce because that’s what we need to do.

Williams, on Calgary’s efforts against Los Angeles this year:
The way they move the puck out of their zone defensively, the way their defensemen skate, it makes it tough. It seems like they’re jumping every time. As forwards you have to work just as hard going one direction as the other one and that’s certainly the case against this team.

Williams, on the proposed changes to the overtime format:
I think I’d be on the kind of whatever side. Whatever is better for our team. If we have good shootout guys, I like the shootout. If not, then forget it. I don’t know.

Williams, on the proposed rule changes at the GM meeting:
Well you always have to alter something. They did the icing this year. I’m still not a huge fan of it, but it is what it is in the game. If they go to four-on-four for a little bit longer, I’d probably open up to that a little bit more. I like the idea they kind of threw around about switching the sides too which would make it a longer change, but I mean we’re players. We play. They tell us what rules we play by.
