LAKings.com unveils Trade Deadline Tracker

I loved this project by the Kings’ digital team last year, and it’s back. LAKings.com recently unveiled its NHL Trade Deadline Tracker, which should keep you updated on the comings and goings in advance of the trade deadline. It’s not embeddable, but is certainly worth this click (and maybe a bookmark at well).

An example for today’s biggest news:
LUUUUUOONNNNNNNNGOOOOOOO. Kings fans will miss that. When Luongo didn’t start in the Heritage Classic you knew something was up; but now the Canucks have 2 goalies not named Luongo and Schneider? Would have never guessed.

There were some great observations last year. On the Cory Conacher-Ben Bishop swap:
HE’S SO SMALL! HE’S SO BIG! OTTAWA GETS THE TINY CALDER CANDIDATE WHO RECENTLY HAS SEEN HIS ICE TIME DIMINISH.

The capitalizations were a wonderful aesthetic, but alas, no caps this season.

From the Nick Schultz-Tom Gilbert trade in 2012:
WILD FANS WOULD RIOT AT LOSING SCHULTZ IF NOT FOR THE FACT THAT HE WAS SWAPPED FOR A MINNESOTA NATIVE. EASY TRADE FOR BOTH, AN OFFENSIVE D-MAN FOR A DEFENSIVE D-MAN. FILLS NEEDS FOR BOTH.

And back in 2011, when James Neal and Matt Niskanen were swapped for Alex Goligoski:
A CLASSIC HOCKEY TRADE: THE PENS IN NEED OF OFFENSE GIVE UP A GOOD D-MAN TO GET A CONSISTENT 20-GOAL SCORER.

Click on some of those links – it’s interesting to see how trades from three years ago were interpreted at the time.

Also, a stick tap to Spike Coffman for digging up this Rich Marotta gem from the vaults:
