March 3 postgame quotes: Darryl Sutter

On the win:
It was a good win against a tough team. Two real similar teams. It was a good game.

On whether the game was an “old time hockey game”:
It was a well-played game. We had good work in special teams, good work five-on-five. Both teams would probably say the same thing.

On Anze Kopitar’s pass to Jeff Carter for the game-winning goal:
We had lots of good plays. I think the line was really effective, especially early in the game.

On what has made the power play more effective:
Aw, cause when we score, then you guys say it is. [Reporter: It looks more effective.] If we didn’t score tonight, then you go, ‘Jeez, you didn’t score on the power play. [Reporter: Even without that many goals, it still looked effective.] The power play’s about scoring big goals. So they scored a big goal tonight, they scored a big goal last game, they scored a big goal. It’s not about all that other stuff.

On whether the team is getting closer to where they want to be:
Every time we win, I’m thrilled. Wins are hard to come by. In fact, we won a lot more before the break, too. [Reporter: Talk about this streak, though. Do you think you’re close to being more consistent than where you want to be] We’re consistent. I mean, we have the best goals-aginst in the National Hockey League and we have a good road record and we have a good home record, and we’re consistent. Night in and night out. Consistency’s not from a team standpoint. Consistency’s from an individual standpoint, which is hard to do.

On whether the style of play is beginning to resemble playoff hockey:
Well, tonight was four-in-six, so that’s what you have to do in playoffs. So that’s what it felt like.

On the upcoming trip to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary:
Well, you know what? The way it works, you play the back-to-backs, which is the second set of back-to-backs out of the five we have remaining, so that’s the tough part. We have to go into Winnipeg, which is a tough building, obviously. Their fans have received it so well. We’ve played there twice, and both times they were close to the best crowds you can play in front of.

On whether the team has a shot at catching San Jose and earning home ice in the playoffs:
We’re trying to make the playoffs. That’s what’s more important.

On Ben Scrivens signing a two-year extension with Edmonton:
He got a good opportunity here, and he stepped in and did a good job, and a big part of that extension, for sure, was that he came in here and did a good job when our goalie was hurt. So that certainly gave him an opportunity.
