November 14 postgame quotes: Ben Scrivens

On what worked well for the team in the third period:
Obviously a big power play goal helps us out to tie it up. You need your special teams to come through, so it was huge for us that they did that. Our young guys really stepped up and kind of led the way a little bit, which is great. That’s what you need out of guys. A couple guys’ first games and first call-ups, so you need those guys to step up and they did for us, so that’s huge. Good team win for us.

On whether it was good to get a win to begin his heavy workload:
It’s important to win every game. That’s the biggest thing with this team, this organization, this coaching staff. It’s a meritocracy, for sure. So you’ve got to take advantage when you get a chance. I’m really fortunate that the guys came through for myself and for the team big time in the third.

On Tanner Pearson scoring in his first regular season game:
It’s awesome. It’s great to see. It’s every kid’s dream to pull on a national hockey league sweater. Pears had a great preseason for us, too. Scored some big goals for us. It’s a testament to him. Obviously no one wants to be sent down, but he worked hard on his game and he was ready when he got the call. That’s a good lesson for young guys coming up – you never know when you’re going to get your shot, so you’ve got to make sure that you’re ready for it when it does come.

On whether he’s happy with where is own game is at:
You’re always improving. There’s obviously some stuff I’d like to tidy up out of this, but again, the result’s the big thing. I’m happy we got the win, and we’ll press the reset button and get ready for our games going forward.
