October 21 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On 14 players recording penalty killing time against Dallas, and whether he has ever had that many penalty killers at his disposal in his coaching career:
Yep. Last year. We put everybody into our penalty killing meetings, and there are five forwards that are constants, if one of them’s not in the penalty box. And there are three defensemen that are constants. Other than that, it’s based on performance.

On whether Calgary is very different compared to last year:
Not really. System-wise, they’re identical. It’s pretty much the same. I know how they’ve talked about getting younger, but they’re the same age, within decimal points. Good skating team, and their scoring – they do lots on the rush. They’re scoring almost three and a half goals a game.

On ways to slow down a mobile defense:
Play on top of the puck. I mean, that’s what we do. They’re mobile like everybody else.

On Daniel Carcillo:
He’s played a few minutes, gave us energy, gave us good discipline. Watch how we use ‘em.

On creating turnovers in the Dallas game:
The less time you spend in your zone, the less you turn the puck over is the difference in the game. Not how many that you force, it’s how many you don’t. You don’t do yourself unforced. Difference in games.

On the schedule to begin the season:
10-in-19. Tonight finishes 10-in-19 for us. We didn’t start the season until the third. Calgary’s played seven. They started opening night in Washington. So we’ve had an extremely tough schedule. We’ve played the fewest home games, the most road games, and tonight’s our first division game. It’s been tough for us.
