Forbort, Shore loaned to Manchester

The Kings announced on Wednesday that defenseman Derek Forbort and center Nick Shore have been loaned to the Manchester Monarchs. With the two assignments, the Kings have 29 players remaining on their 2013 training camp roster.

Neither player was expected to make the opening day roster.

Shore, who turns 21 on Thursday, recorded a goal and an assist in the Kings’ 4-3 overtime loss to Colorado last Friday. That morning, Darryl Sutter had said that “We’ll give him another game,” which the positionally sound, intelligent center took advantage of. He’s scheduled to make his regular season professional debut when Manchester opens the season at Springfield on October 5. He was a third round pick in 2011.

The 21-year-old Forbort was selected 15th overall in 2010 and appeared in 10 regular season and postseason games with Manchester after turning pro last season, recording one assist. His lone preseason appearance came in the split-squad home game against Phoenix when he was paired with fellow University of North Dakota product Matt Greene. At practice Wednesday morning, the 6-foot-4 defenseman was paired with Keaton Ellerby.
