September 23 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

On Matt Frattin skating with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter:
I think they’ve been really good. I think that we look forward to seeing ‘em in the next three games, and ready to go.

On Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli:
I think they’ve played good. Obviously I think Tanner’s been a little bit more consistent than the other three boys, but they’re good players. They’ve played well.

On what he has appreciated that Frattin has brought, and what needs to continue to evolve:
First off, he’s exceptionally well-trained, which allows him to really utilize his skill set. He’s got really good hands, and he can really skate. Those are three pretty good attributes to have coming into training camp and to start the season, and obviously being a new player, to answer the second part, he’s trying to fit in. He’s trying to adapt to the locker room, adapt to pretty much a room that’s obviously there’s 15 or 16 guys that have played together for two or three years that are used to winning and used to being successful, so he’s trying to fit in to that.

On Frattin’s “north-south” efforts:
It’s clearly part of his game. It’s very easy to see that.

On whether he had always thought that Frattin would fit in well with the Kings systems:
I had never seen him play until two weeks ago. So that’s a question for Dean.

On Drew Doughty’s readiness for the start of the season:
Just basing it on the last two weeks, he is very well-trained, and he’s ready to go. Get him his games, so he’s game ready. That’s it.

On whether Doughty was affected by playing with multiple defensive partners last year:
No, it didn’t affect Drew at all. It impacted how much he had to play, and it impacted our win-loss record. It was injury-related. Drew can play with anybody, but Drew’s on the ice against the other team’s best players a lot. So Drew’s partner last year wasn’t necessarily doing a good enough job for us, so we got Robyn.

On how Willie Mitchell will be used in the remaining exhibition games:
He’ll play the next one for sure, just because he hasn’t played at home. Other than that, I haven’t gone past that…So he’s got to play here. It makes sense to play him tomorrow. We’ll go from there.
