Torres suspended through the second round

San Jose forward Raffi Torres has been suspended through the second round of the playoffs due to his illegal hit to the head of Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinal series between the Kings and Sharks.

In his description of the hit and explanation of the suspension, Brendan Shanahan, the NHL’s senior vice president of player safety, repeatedly referenced Stoll’s head as the principal point of contact.

“If he chooses to attempt a hit such as this, Torres must take a route that ensures that he hits through the core of the body and does not make the head the principal point of contact,” Shanahan explained.
