April 8 practice quotes: Darryl Sutter

The Kings’ practice on Monday morning wasn’t as much of a “practice” as it was a chance for Dustin Penner and Matt Greene to get 20 minutes of skating in without goaltenders. Most players did not report to Toyota Sports Center.

Head Coach Darryl Sutter spoke briefly with the team’s traveling media before boarding the plane to Dallas.

On Dustin Penner’s progress, and whether he’ll be available on Tuesday:
“We can have unlimited roster now, as long as you’re under cap. So we’ll see how he is tomorrow again. He’s skating good. So it’s a little bit more treatment and see how he is.”

On seeing Matt Greene making progress:
“Yeah, he hasn’t gone every day…This is his second back-to-back, so he’s still in the rehabilitation stage of it. Not really where you can say ‘40 lashes’.”

On the team continuing its strong play against Anaheim:
“We played well. That’s really all that matters. If we play the play the way we’re playing, we’ll continue to get points and get closer to a playoff spot.”

On six straight goals being scored against L.A. in the shootout:
“I’m no different than you guys in a shootout. You’re just standing there watching. You can’t help the goalies. You try and play your odds or your hot guys, picking the guys. I knew before the game if we got to one, I was going to play Mike first. He’s a pressure guy, and he hasn’t missed one for us yet. Carter’s clearly our next best guy on there, and if we had gotten to the next one, Kopi looked good, so he would’ve been next. If you’ve got to score all three, you’re probably in tough, right?”

The team will be departing for Dallas shortly. I’ll post additional content upon arrival.
