After conducting several KingsVision interviews, center Colin Fraser continued his broadcasting duties Friday afternoon by sitting down with LA Kings Insider to talk on and off-ice topics in the latest edition of FrasCast. Go Neil/neil go!
My problem so far has been officiating…
Not just our Kings but league wide.
I am face slapping myself far too often over this..
Mandatory visor talk, while they ignore the cross check,
the slashing, late hits, boarding, well you get the idea….
If player safety is an issue, hybrid Icing has to be at the top
(From recent news ideas they have mentioned)
They do not even have a full committee yet either WTF!!
Buttman and crew talk big. But again like the lockout,
Nothing but Terrance and Phillip bobble head gum flapping!

@Neil, well but Mars has a point and it’s something that was discussed at the recent GM meeting: the lack of consistency in officiating across the board. It’s all games and all divisions. There are blatant missed calls and too much is left open to interpretation. It’s something the GMs have a major issue with that they want resolved in the future. Not being a GM myself (shocking, I know), I was not invited to this meeting so I don’t know if any progress will ever be made to get consistent reffing, smaller pads, etc. All I know is what I’ve gleaned from NHL Tonight and various news articles

@Neil, 36, not even mad after the loss, pissed about player protection, granted accidents will happen, such as Kopi’s ankle, a visor cut to the face etc. But some can be prevented.
Not complaining about the hooking or holding here, that is piddly crap BUT (big one hehe) I do complain about it during games, as a fan I feel its ok, but not the players.
I do agree its a distraction for the players, look how we got under the Yotes skin in the playoffs; Or how it threw us against the sharts after the Clowne stick.
I have seen a lot of Crosschecking and Boarding they let fly, Kings for and against too.
Its the dirty plays that fly by that are a problem.
That is what makes me Scoff when the NHL talks about player protection.
THat is what usually sets me off in games.
Not denying I am eying harder towards the Kings, but it is clearly a problem and well Bettman and crew suck.
Mars Reply:

@Neil, Oh and yeah I agree on the getting breaks, but again not mad at that, nor the amount of missed offside etc, Just the dirty plays they see and dont let fly.
Recently the one missed I was most pissed about was the Doan dive (Embellishment) glove drop (misconduct) and chasing for a fight (instigator) missed call. And yea, we won.
On the other side, say Cliffy had done that (not that he would) I would be pissed at him, I would be embarrassed as a fan. Yeah I hate the Yotes soooo much. But I digress..
Player protection, that is my issues, and sorry I morphed your comment into something else.
I think I started off to defend my razzing of our players and got sidetracked.

@Mars, I am frustrated with the change in what is called in the past week. Every other year, the officating lossens up between the all star break and St. Patty’s day. This year there was no gradual transition. It was just all of a sudden, we are going make a decisive, sudden change to playoff hockey. I have no issue with the transistion, as it is as old as the league, and it benefits a bigger team. Healthy we are a 600 team until St. Pats and then we are a 650 until the playoffs. So again, I like the annual change. I just do not believe this year, that the players were aware the change happened. When the segway is abrupt, there is a chance for a player to go to far. This puts players at risk. Look at the number of suspensions lately. I rest my case. May we stay healthy

@Neil, Assuming Mitchell & Greene return to the fold 100%. This is the Best Kings Team ever without any question. Really after developing some of the depth this year at the NHL level the organization is stronger without any doubt than it was last year when it won the Cup. As of this team right now, the PK is weak and the D gets exposed on the road. I feel the youngsters on D have made major strides in just the last 2 weeks, but we will see when DS doesn’t get the last change and they have to face top lines in many different situations.

To see the parade. This dream came thru. We expect this team to Keep winning. We have a shortened season, Quick has not been Quick, we all know what he is capable of. The importance of winning game 15 or 25 this season is much more important than any other season. Having two great goa lies is a blessing we should never forget, not after all the goalies we have gone thru. Debate is fun. Go Kings Go!

@KC23, I watched the hit on Smith and while I thought it was if-y, I don’t know if it honestly warranted a 2 game suspension. I mean, he could’ve slowed down and tried to stop but it may have been a game of chicken type thing. While it may hurt the Canucks, I wouldn’t call it an advantage for the Kings. They’ll just tighten up their defense that much more.
Anyway, I’m looking at the overall big picture. Shanahan is supposed to be “consistent” but he’s one of the least consistent people when it comes to player safety. It’s incredibly irritating

@Mars, Yeah the Nucks are having some injury issues but they are potentially getting an injured player back. I saw it on MM. I forgot who it is, though.
Oh and I disagree with Shanahan saying that he was charging the goalie. I mean, to me, it looked like Smith was starting to stand up so Edler thought he had time and he could squeeze past Smith with minimal effect. Obviously he way underestimated his own speed and way overestimated what Smith’s actions would be.
Did you see Smith jump him after the refs pulled all the guys off each other? I was laughing at that. I was like nice, Smith, go be a goonie. I get it if you’re mad, but walk away and handle it like a pro.

I was going off a rants how the NHL has to forfeit the Sharks win…… I was overacting to say the least. I never blamed Clowe though. I was the officials and the NHL I blame. It was a stupid thing Clowe did, he should have been called and that would have been the end of the Sharks comeback. It should have cost SJ the game, instead it cost us the game. I can laugh about it now (especially since we won the cup) but man was I TO’d. Can’t remember seeing anything like that before.

@Osaka, Ideal Coach = Coach Sutter. I don’t know what I’ll do when he’ gone one day. He sees everything on the ice. He doesn’t try and reinvent the wheel with new “concepts”. Get the puck, shoot, score, stay with your guy, stay on the right side of the puck, etc. Practice hard gets rewarded. Oh, and how he focuses the team on the game at hand.

-has favorites

-cannot speak in press conferences
(more grunts then anything else)
Anybody can focus one game at a time. Its development of the talent and getting the best out of the players is the key. He is not getting the best everynight out of Kopitar, Brown, Williams, Doughty, Stoll, Penner, Carter, Richards and if you suggest he is then you must be watching another game than I.
