Kari Lehtonen was the best player on the ice Thursday night and deserves his share of praise for a 40-save performance that earned him his first shutout of the season.
On the other end of the rink a very good Jonathan Quick stopped 19 shots while drawing the attention of the law due to this robbery of Trevor Daley:
That was an amazing save. He’s going down and manages to get that glove up and snag the puck out of the air. Way to go, Quickie! There’s the guy we all remember from last season.
BTW, Jon, you’re posting too fast! Fans can’t rant long enough before you add a new post

@shiny, On that last note…maybe a good thing, as the comments after a game like this tend to be more irritating than the game itself, which, I thought was very entertaining, up until the first goal.

@puck73, Not too much to complain about tonight other than Lehtonen playing a great game – giving credit where credit is due. Quick played uncharacteristically well (I was a little surprised honestly) – let’s hope he’s all better now. Kings didn’t control all 60 minutes but I can’t recall a game they ever have. Kings are doing relatively well – still at 95.4% to make the playoffs according to sportsclubstats.com. I mean life is not that bad really.

Most nigbts, allowing only one or two goals in gets you the win. The offense didnt score and Lehtonen was on fire. Every year there is one team that has our number and we cant beat them. Last uear it was CBN. The year before it was the Blues and the year before that it was Chicago. This year its Dallas.

@DesertKing, Actually for two seasons now Dallas has always been a tough team to beat both at staples and in Dallas. It’s the team I always try to avoid watching just because the level of frustration they give the Kings especially more irritating when Ott was with the team.
Remember when Kings had a game in the bag only to loose late when Guletzen had his team lined up during a faceoff like a football team when they ALL charged towards Quick to score late.
Again they scored late two seasons ago with less then a minute to tie only to loose it again when Handzus score with less then 5 seconds to win it in REGULATION!!
Dallas has pretty much had the Kings number….Really glad they haven’t made the play-offs for sure!!
[Reply]
Should the Kings be interested in Komiserek from Toronto??
Also, I was always curious to know whether the Mike Murphy they talk about “in Toronto” that looks over controversial goals is the same Mike Murphy that played RW during the seventies Kings purple and gold days and it sure was!! NHL live did a feature on “The Situation Room,” and clearly it IS Kings former right winger Mike Murphy.
Kings should have him for a Legends Night; yet another good excuse for the Kings to where their vintage “forum blue” and gold, although I wish they break out with the ALL gold unis/pants.

I guess their aren’t any Phx Type Fans for the Kings, or we would be hearing how the Kings lost because the Refs failed to call hooking on Jagr while he water skied behind Kopi seconds before Dallas’ first goal. You know the ones any self-respecting Phx Fan would claim is the big MOMENTUM for the rest of game, possibly season, or decade of seasons. Nice to see we took the loss like men and will use it as fuel to steam roll thru the rest of the season and not let teams hang around in a game they have no business being competive in. Much like a loss vs Det this year and last. This game may be looked back on as a refresher that the better team doesn’t always win, so you can’t have any games off.

If Toffoli doesnt play on Saturday and The Kings lose again, wonder who Sutter will call out then? The way I see it, if Sutter can call out a Con Smythe winner like Quick (which he has) He wouldnt hesitate to take a shot at anyone who screws up.

@puck73, the coach or reporter? Can’t see Sutter melting down. Tortsy melts down every 5 seconds. Some reporter had the balls to ask Sutter why Toffee didn’t play in the last 10 minutes against PHX. Of course Sutter replied there’s nothing that says he has to play him. The reporter followed up by asking if TT was injured. Sutter gave him a withering stare before asking if they ever report injuries in a tone implying the reporter was not too bright to ask that question lol

@puck73, I’m predicting his style of coaching ultimately will result in his early demise with the team……I’m giving DS TWO more seasons with the Kings.
I still thought Gagne had plenty of fuel(confidence) in his tank that DS allowed to evaporate by sitting him so long. Now traded to a far inferior team Gagne’s confidence is all but gone for sure!!!

Kingdork must finally break his silence.
Night in and night out he witnesses the same problem and hope it gets a quick fix.
Dan Moriarity (sp?) is the worst interviewer of all time, makes KD feel uncomfortable watching him.
#1 Why is he conducting interviews?
#2 Who is he?
#3 Do you think he’ll ask in the next interview how “” keeps his laces tight for the ENTIRE PERIOD?
Does this guy even watch the games? His questions are mostly uninteresting and overly-enthusiastic. Perhaps there is some appeal to folks who have never watched the sport before, but KingDork can’t seem to resolve this clown.
He and Brian Hayward would make a nice duo, Hayward can do his normal officiating analysis, Moriarity can be super enthusiastic about the orange stripe on some of the officials arms.
More Alex Curry, less Dan!

Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think Sutter really called anyone out tonight. I went back and looked at the quotes and all he said was Kopi’s line has been struggling lately. When a reporter asks why the team lost, do you all want him to be like Torts and go “We sucked tonight” ? Or would it make you all feel better if he placed the blame.squarely.on his shoulders and say he.wasn’t able to coach his team to a win? For those of you complaining about Nolan drawing back into the lineup, if we’d still lost (seems likely) what would you have left to complain about? Maybe Sutter was just trying to shake things up and get his team to pull their heads out of their butts with the lineup change.
Jeez people complain a lot (myself included)

I am not going to be one to question the decision to sit Toffoli in favor of Nolan last night. Toffoli had a poor game against Phoenix where he was not effective on any shift. Nolan was champing at the bit to get back on, so there was a chance that he would play his butt off.
And the Kings were playing a more physical team (supposedly), so Nolan was the logical choice.
I don’t believe that Toffoli would have made a difference given how he played against Phoenix and how Lehtonen was not letting anything past him.
I don’t like the loss like most Kings fans, but this one did not come about because of the decision to sit Toffoli, IMO. This one came about because of what DS said. The first line played poorly and they couldn’t find a way to beat a supposedly “tired” team.

@vplaza, I know Toffoli didnt play well against a Coyote team that was desperate for 2 points and played reckless. That being said, the team had beter balance when he was in because he was a scoring threat which took pressure off other lines and players IMO.

vplaza Reply:

@puck73,
It’s impossible to say whether or not Toffoli would have found more success against Dallas than he did against a desperate Phoenix team. Plus, the problem last night was not the pressure on the other lines. They had plenty of scoring opportunities that were simply not finished properly or that Lehtonen shut down.
I didn’t see the Dallas defense putting any real pressure on the forward lines, to be honest. They had plenty of time in the Dallas zone, so again, I don’t think Toffoli would have made much of a difference.
Of course, this is moot. The only way to try and see if DS was really wrong is to put Toffoli back in against a less physical Nucks team and see if he can find what he lost against Phoenix.
