-The Kings have now won 14 of their last 19 games, out-scoring opponents 66-42.
-The Kings have now won 11 of their last 12 games at home.

-The Kings have out-scored opponents 52-30 at home this season
-Jonathan Bernier recorded a career high 40 saves tonight. His previous high was 34 saves.
-Anze Kopitar extended his assist and point streak to five games (1-5=6).
-Kopitar recorded 24:24 of ice time, a 2012-13 season high and the most regular season ice time recorded since 26:20 in a 3-2 shootout win at Toronto on December 19, 2011.
-Justin Williams extended his point streak to four games (1-5=6).

-Jake Muzzin now has nine points in the last nine game (4-5=9). His six goals on the season are tied for the second-most in the league amongst defensemen.
-The Kings allowed a season-high 42 shots. The last time Los Angeles allowed as many as 42 shots on goal was December 1, 2011 when they allowed 42 shots in a 2-1 home win over the Florida Panthers. The Kings also allowed 48 shots in a 4-2 win at Vancouver in Game 2 of last year’s first round playoff series.
-The Kings have scored a power-play goal in six of the last seven games, going 8-for-22 over that span (36.4%).
-Shane Doan recorded a game-high 13 hits and took a game-high 11 shots.

This is streak ranks second only to Patrick Roy’s tearing up streak of every game he has ever played in.

While I was in college a group of science & law school geeks combined to drop formic acid on students in a dorm cafeteria… Needless to say those dumped on were not happy. One girl was quoted as saying she ‘felt as though she’d been raped.’ It was a very big deal & 5 students were suspended for 1+ years. A senior law student was expelled, 3 months from graduation.
Yeah, the worst thing ever done.

@shiny, While I think the the Kings didn’t establish the forecheck as much as in recent games the Yotes were for the most part going for quantity over quality of shot. I think the DS would agree with me in that its better to face 40 shots (that include 30 from wide of the cirles, and only a few scoring chances) than face 10+ prime scoring chances. Also you will notice that most teams that lead a game from early on rarely have more shots on goal then the team trailing all game.

17 of the dogs shots came in a desperation 3rd period also. As much as I dislike some of the tactics, we were simply getting a barage of zone play in our end and that was to be expected. Yunno, sometimes it’s bend don’t break. We seized an opportunity on a PP goal and you just cannot discount the significance of that in a game like this.
In the absence of Mitchell and Greene, the Kings have a different approach than what we were seeing down the stretch and cup run. It’s a work-in-progress. And, as many are aware – may get addressed @ the deadline. In the meantime, just keep winning.
I thought one team on the ice (and their coach) showed a lot of smarts and poise in the game Tues. night. — 42 SOG… whatever. Huge 4pts.

I think we can safelty say the Yotes are the Kings’ bitches!
I think the world of Tippett as a head coach, but he’s responsible for the ridiculous behavior of his team.
Doan is a classless a&&hole…someone from the stands should have thrown him a box of kleenex after the Muzzin collision. He’s down on the ice like his knee is blown out only to recover in a matter of seconds and go after Muzzin. And if someone can explain to me how you can drop your gloves and go after a guy and not get a penalty, I’d love to hear the explanation. Did the refs feel bad for him or something? the officating was terrible last night…both teams.
The Vermette penalty cost them the game last night. They were hell-bent on going after Muzzin and lost sight of the fact that they needed the 2 points desperately. I blame Tippett and the culture of whining with that team. As a coach, you need to tell your guys forget it and win the game. Doan’s the captain. He needs to start acting like one.
As for the Kings…I understand why Toffoli was benched in the 3rd last night. He wasn’t very good. It’s understandable coming off the adrenaline rush of geting called up and getting your 1st goal. He barely had the puck on his stick and the penalty in the 3rd, he was beaten at the blueline. The fact that Penner looked so good last night makes me think that he’ll go back to playing with Richards and Carts..if that’s the case, Toffoli will probably be heading back to Manchester sometime in the near future. He’s a top 6 foward, not a 4th line guy. Just my opinion.
Thrilled that DD got the goal. Now he should be able to relax offensively and i’m sure the goals will start coming in bunches for him.
I thought Ellerby and MArtinez had pretty good games for the most part. There were some lapses by Ellerbe, but he was a lot better than he’s been.
Outstanding effort by Bernier. He was the man last night and couldn’t have played a better game.
Last mention is Kopi…back to back games and he’s playing 24 minutes…amazing athlete!
You can’t ask for anything more than taking 4 out of 4 points from a divison rival. They’ve put themselves in great position and need to keep their foot on the gas and stay in the top 4.

Regarding Toffoli, I’m with you on that. He did not look as good as he did in his first two games, both offensively and defensively. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise for a rookie, no matter how skilled he may be.
I think he gets more ice time and goes back to Manchester before his 10th game and we see Nolan back on the ice. When the playoffs start, we’re going to need the big bodies to wear teams down. Toffoli will get his real shot next year when some positions open up up front.

Last nights game was as tough a game to play as you’re gonna see.
You’re on the back end of a back to back series against a divivison rival who got their lunch handed to them the night before.
The Yotes contested every inch of ice last night and when you’re playing in your 3rd game, that’s an awful lot to ask of the kid.
Sutter showed his brilliance as a coach last night in how he handled the kid. At the point he sat him, things were happening a lot quicker than anything he’s seen before. He made sure not to hurt the kids confidence while making sure we had the people on the ice we needed to get the 2 points. It also didn’t hurt that Penner may have played his best game since coming to the Kings.

@nykingfan, When Toffoli first got called up, my comment was that they want to just give him a taste of the NHL so that he at least has some experience. Much better than throwing him in for the stretch drive or playoffs. As he gets more experience and maturity they will be able to count on him in these kind of games, but not yet. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like anyone expects him to be an every situation type of player anytime soon.
Seems like that Kings are now miles ahead on knowing how to break in their youngsters than they used to be…remember Aki Berg? Jamie Storr? even Dustin Brown and Bernier got thrown to the wolves way too early…

@nykingfan, yep, probably better to keep TT on the bench and observe than have him on the ice with the game going by at lightning speed. Definitely more of a liability for the team at that point. Toffoli will get his chances eventually but that was the right move by DS. As far as Dave Tippet, I always liked Dave especially when he was the Kings assistant coach. I respect him as a head coach however it’s come to my attention in several instances that when the ‘Yotes lose, it’s gonna be the officiating he blames. Sure enough, he did it last night. I’d like to see him own up to the fact it wasn’t a one-sided game with the officiating.

I put that loss on Tippet again. Time and time again you can see him whining on the bench about whatever and soon after you see his team lose focus and do something stupid. Doan just adds to the stupidity and next thing you know there are 3 or 4 cryotey players trying to take runs at King players taking them completely out of their game.
In hind sight it does look like Nolan would of been the better option, but then again it was probably a good learning experience for Toffoli. That is what the playoffs are going to be like so you better get used to it kid.

@KC23,
Hawks are the team to beat. In the two games we played, the Hawks were clearly the better team for the majority of the minutes, but the Kings appeared to wake up too late in the last game. Only a 7 game series will tell how we stack up.

I know i’m super late on this, but I can’t believe doan wasn’t called for dropping his gloves.. it was clearly a collision and not a hit.. the refs let the dogs take runs at the kings the rest of the game too, until they called vermette at the end.. i don’t like phoenix much.. Good W kings!!
[Reply]
Trying to hurt Muzzin is Doan’s way to show how displeased he is that Lombardi did not match him the 26 mill / 4 yr contract the Sabres threw at him. The phantom knee hit was just an excuse.
Doan’s behavior is, indeed, shameless for a player of his caliber and experience. But the primary culprit is Dave Tippet. He condones, foments and contributes to the culture of whining the Cryotes have built for themselves.
Vancupless Cannots, move over…there is a new whiner in town!!
No team that employs and plays Rafi ‘cokehead’ Torres should ever whine anywhere near as much as these sissies do.

@Gustavo, Vancouver took their medicine in last years playoffs and really didn’t whine much at all … the Cryotes however. IMHO Phoenix and way bi-passed the Canucks in classless play. Tippet is a fool for acting the way he does on the bench during the game. He is the ring leader in losing his team’s focus when they need it most.
[Reply]
OMG – A$$ clown Kelly Chase on NHL Tonight just stated that the Muzzin/Doankey collision was a dirty hit on Muzz and that he just “can’t do that to a veteran player”!!
Ok, I am a bit partial her but are you serious? Look, if I thought the play was dirty I would go ahead and say it. But the play was absolutely, no question NOT a dirty hit. How do these so called “experts”, and I do use this term extremely loosely, actually get jobs????

@DesertKing, I don’t either but it’s still infuriating. How he got a job there is mind boggling. Any moron who knows anything about hockey can clearly see that the hit was just two guys colliding on the ice. But since Muzz is a rookie, he will never get the benefit of the doubt.

that was disgraceful. I hope the league comes down on him. I don’t have the clip but the replay clearly shows the stick hitting him in the upper chest and he uses his hand to knock his helmet and shield backwards….
Tippett forgot to mention that one as well

like i stated last night Tyson Nash should be fired for the crap that comes out of his mouth, As the time was counting down, He said “They should let Torres lose” So he was saying its ok to Goon it up. He is a disgrace to hockey broadcasting…

WRT Doan cheating…That isnt the right word…Brown is a cheater then?? cause i have seen him flop.To me cheating is taking illegal roids…illegal sticks..larger pads….etc. I also saw the Kings crosscheck someone behind the net with under a minute left in the game and no penalty…I will never complain about the refs cause the bad/non calls really do go both way. You cant focus on the refs…That is what I like about DS..Its never about the refs…

@Neil, Did Dallas beat the Kings or did the kings beat themselves? I remember that one as real stinker for our guys. Last night the Yotes came out on fire after getting their royal arses kicked the night before. A team can play the Kings anyway they want to but when the Kings stick to their own system and get a good effort the results usually go the way of our team. Keep it rolling!

NHL Network gives Lundqvist the 2nd star of the night with 29 sames. LOL. No mention of the stellar performance by JB. In face, his overall play wasn’t even mentioned in the highlights of the game. I realize they probably did the 3 stars before our game ended but it would’ve made no difference. ECB in full effect…..
I try not to let the morons over at the Network get to me but sometimes it does none-the-less. To see the lack of respect for the defending champs is staggering….

@SpencerMaze, that’s OK, Quickie posted his first season shutout, 25th of his career, and they had about 30 seconds of highlights from the game. Didn’t earn a 3 stars mention. Oh but Pens goalie Fleury does it and they spent 10 minutes talking to him last week. It’s NHL network. They forget we exist in Cali

@SpencerMaze, Our Kings are lucky to even be an after thought with the NHL Network. I watched NHL Live yesterday and they spent the first hour talking about the NY Rangers. The only time the Kings were even really mentioned was by a Blue Jackets beat writer being interviewed. On the segment when they re cap the night before games, they just simply left us out of it. WE ARE THE CUP CHAMPIONS!!!! Give us respect!!!! We earned it….

@SpencerMaze, we all know it’s not going to be any different……ever. IF we were an EC team then we would get a lot of attention. It’s just a timing issue. The NHL network is in New York right? So you can’t expect them to be doing a show at 1AM just to cover us.
Better this way I think. Like the ducks and hawks and/or columbus getting all the good attention. let’s sneak under the radar, as much as possible. Forget about being champs, let’s just be the kings and hope they forget how good we really are.

@Lake Forest, ESPN set up a meida crew in LA so they could cover the NBA and college hoops completely. The base of the problem is the NHL being based on the east coast. If you want to have full coverage of the entire NHL it makes a lot more sense to have your media based on the west coast. On the west coast you media crew can start about noon and end around 11pm.
