March 19 postgame quotes: Jonathan Bernier

On the pressure of playing against a team that hadn’t scored in three games:
“We knew they were going to come out really hard on us and shoot from everywhere, and that’s what they did, I think. The first minute they had five shots on net, shooting from everywhere. We weathered the storm, and we found a way to win again tonight.”

On getting through Phoenix’s pushes in the third period:
“We knew it was going to be a tough one. I thought we didn’t panic too much defensively. We stayed solid. We didn’t let too many shots from the middle, and that’s our game.”

On the fundamental way to stop a deflection:
“You know, you’ve just got to try and make your [body] as big as possible, and try to be as tight as possible to the player that’s going to deflect it. Unfortunately Doan got a nice tip, but they’ve been pretty good boxing out and clearing the way for me. Obviously when you get 42 shots there’s going to be some pucks that’ll be tipped for sure.”

On Phoenix constantly getting bodies in the crease:
“They’re a big team. They crash the net hard. Especially on their power play with Hanzal, [he’s] a pretty big guy, so they have some skills and we weathered the storm.”

On whether he liked the team’s composure:
“We did. We just find a way to score at the right time, and we did it again tonight. We scored that third goal – that was big. We held on at the end.”

On what he has done well this year with the greater opportunity:
“When I see the puck very well, I make it, I guess, look easy, and I stay on my feet more often, and that’s my game. So obviously playing more gives me more confidence.”
