LAKings.com feature: Work in Progress

My weekly LAKings.com feature is now live on the team’s site. It details Jake Muzzin’s path to the National Hockey League and his efforts in becoming a consistent, all-around defensemen as his point total has grown impressively during his rookie season. It contains some interesting words from his defensive partner, Drew Doughty, and acute analysis from Head Coach Darryl Sutter.

“He’s got to be a great defender to play in the NHL,” Sutter said of Muzzin. “End of the day, bottom line.”

    boy I agree, any defender coming into the NHL needs to understand his own end 1st to play in this league. If not flash in the pan and likely moving from team to team often.
    We see the value of solid D with Mitchell and Greene out.

    I gotta admit, I’ve become a fan of Muzzlezilla. He’s improved significantly since his “road apples” game in Anaheim. He’s got a long ways to go, but he’s showing himself to be a quick study

  3. RobSD says:

    Points are great but he is still weak on defense. A-Mart was bench for letting that Calgary forward walk around him for that only goal.

    Anyone think Tiffoli fills in for Penner next game?

    @RobSD, Penns is a LW and has been working his pancakes off. I don’t think it’s fair to sit him when he’s been one of the better and more consistent players on the ice lately. Why punish the man who had to deal with that goon Smith in the net last night?

    @RobSD, I’d take muzzin over amart any day of the week. His efforts on the PP alone have given us a chance to actually convert. It’s been a long time since I could say that. Special teams make the difference nowadays.

    @RobSD, Penner has been playing very well as is that entire line. No chance what so ever. My guess is if Toffoli gets any playing time it’ll be for either Nolan or King.

    Corina Perry got 4 games for his late hit on Zucker.

    @Gustavo, how does he get punished worse than Clowne?? Why does Clowne get away with so much $@&*?? Jeez

    @shiny, I keep hoping he gets traded to the bruins

    @Mars, Clowne or Perry?

    Duncanz Reply:

    @shinny, Clowe’s transgressions are not violent per se. They are dumb.
    Perry however may have less scruples.
    But certainly both know knuckleheadedness like the back of their hands!

    shiny Reply:

    @Duncanz, I dunno, I’d argue charging off the bench to fight someone with 10 seconds left in the game is.fairly violent (albeit stupid and unsuccessful)

    Duncanz Reply:

    @shinyonyoucrazydiamond, At least the guy saw him coming and he wasn’t a half period late (like CP)!!

  5. Kings x says:

    King is a likely target for TT to replace. Don’t want to disturb the 4th line. Stoll, lewis and penner have all been pulling their weight. Plus I think you want to put TT into a top six role. They wouldn’t bring him up unless they planned on putting him into the system.

    @Kings x, King isn’t in the top 6? King is playing on the 3rd line with Stoll & Lewis. Penner is with Richards & Carter. Penner does get winded faster than Richards & Carter, so King may get a couple shifts with those 2, but not alot.

    @Neil, oh you know it’s dad asking James for help, not the other way around!

    @Lake Forest,

    Does Dunc rent James out for single guys so he can “work his magic”?

    @shineilakel J,
    • That was DS quote re ‘R. Apples’ from just the other day. Didn’t he mention same at the lunch table on Sunday?
    • Not really
    • That’s a fact, quite honest
    • You should’ve seen him in action outside Staples on Mon nite while @Dominuck and I looked on in typical tongue-tied amazement!

    Also, 5-0-1, baby!!

    WRT trades…Kings are built to last…There is not an urgency to win this year….we won last year..we are in the running for this year and in the future. Just keep getting your youngsters such as Muzzin(see how I made that fit the topic?)to grow as players….trading the future for the present is a thing of the past IMHO…..P.S. to Duncanz..Say Hi to Mr. James !!!!

    @Neil,

    Toffoli to Toronto for anybody, anybody to Anaheim for Perry, Perry to Montreal for anybody, anybody to San Josuck for Clowne, release Clowne with no $$$.

    @DesertKing,

    If Clowe gets waived, he’ll be signed somewhere in no time.
