Behold: Jobing.com Arena

Welcome to the spacious interior of Glendale, Arizona’s Jobing.com Arena, one of my favorite buildings in the National Hockey League to comfortably work in. There are extremely tight quarters in some of the league’s press boxes – I feel I’m a sneeze away from getting whistled for elbowing in St. Louis, Vancouver and Detroit – yet here in the Glendale press box, which stretches the length of the building – I’m afforded ample space, a cubby to place my backpack, and a second intermission hot dog. Bell’s Oberon is on tap at the nearby Yardhouse, and if you’ve ever spent a summer in Michigan, you know the significance of such a luxury. Back to hockey. Pictured to the right in the below photo was the net into which Dustin Penner scored his game-winning goal that sent the Kings into the Stanley Cup Final.

    Looking at the pictures, and camera takes during the game, you’d have no idea it was really in the middle of nowhere.

    I am still dizzy after reading Coach Sutter’s afternoon quotes.

    @lakingbob(chi), Penner is the man now. Good for him. Don’t know why he can’t get in shape without Coach Sutter on his ass but I’ll take Pens any day of the week with our current coach. Speaking of butt… Yes, I really look forward to the Kings kicking some BH rear end.

    I like the Job. Went there last year for game 2 of the playoffs. Very nice. Nice outdoor city walk right next door. Got my tickets for early April to go back for a Kings game there.

    @KC23, great place..when we drove up and parked and no one collected money….Looked around…no one collecting for parking…thought for sure when we left we would either have a ticket or been towed…But Free Parking…Unheard of!!! I thought of setting up my own little stand and collecting $1 from every car coming in….

    With the exception of Kings fans that are going to attend it looks like the coyotes have a capacity crowd yet again. lol

    Heads up to Jon….Dont take a picture during the game of the crowd….I believe it was last season or the season before when Rich tried to do that and he got yelled at by Phoenix’s people !!!

    @Neil, I was going to mention the Rich Hammond Rule! Fortunately, they’ve taken down the notices that pressbox photography is prohibited, and I feel that pre-game photography is kosher.

    Terrible outer concourse though. Low ceiling, everyone packed in like sardines, no room to move.

    @Naturallawyer,

    Wife and I are 12’5″ combined. We felt claustrophobic in that concourse. Terrible!!

    @Neil, Since it seems like a trick question I’ll go with Islanders. BUT, which team was in the conf finals and which team hasn’t been in the playoffs since Christ was a child?

    Courtesy of Elliotte Friedman, which some of you may have already seen:

    “How important is health? The Canucks lead the NHL with 12 players appearing in every game. Second is a tie between the Kings, Bruins and Penguins (11). Those four teams are a combined 58-26-11. (Chicago led that category until last week.) Worst attendance? Five players from Colorado and Buffalo have appeared in all their team’s games. Six for Columbus, Florida and the Rangers. Their combined record is 49-58-19.”

    “One more: Chicago and Los Angeles have used the fewest number of players, with 23. Pittsburgh and Montreal are next at 24. Combined: 69-23-9. A ridiculous 11 teams have already dressed 30 or more. The leaders (with 31) are Calgary, Carolina, Florida and New Jersey. Record: 42-41-16. Could be worse. (Thanks to Stan Nieradka for the numbers.)”
