Set amidst the backdrop of 13 goals in 13 games, Jeff Carter recorded a hat trick against the Nashville Predators as part of a six-goal week and was named the NHL’s third star of the week for his red hot efforts. His six game-winning goals lead the league, while his four first goals – including the one he recorded in a 6-2 win over Calgary on Saturday – are tied for fifth.
The Kings posted a 3-1 record last week, outscoring Nashville, St. Louis, Dallas and Calgary 19-12 while defeating the Predators, Blues and Flames.
Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky earned first star honors by virtue of a four-win week that included a shutout. The Blue Jackets have won five consecutive games, the team’s longest streak since a franchise-record six consecutive wins in late 2006.
Sidney Crosby recorded nine assists and 11 points to lead all NHL skaters in earning the week’s second star.
Wooo Carts! Man en fuego!

@Neil, you didn’t hear it from me, but the rumor mill suggests we might be getting MG back for the playoffs. He’s apparently been working hard to get into game shape and according to a certain coach, we could see him *potentially* (nothing set in sto ne of course) work into the lineup. But I don’t want to perpetuate the rumor.mill

@shiny, He was expected to be back for the playoffs from the beginning. I’ve heard he is ahead of schedule though.

Carts is scoring goals against teams with much tighter defense and goaltending. Not the lame our-goalie-can’t-stop-the-puck conferense.

I’m surprised the NHL even remembered there were Western Conference teams. Well deserved, Carter!

Go, Carts! Keep up the fantastic work, man. You da bomb.

Carter is a complete player both offensively & defensively although he can work on his measly 2 assists. Seriously, I knew exactly what a player like Carts would bring to the Kings which is why I was calling for the Johnson for Carter trade. Thanks Columbus!!!!

@King Alex, Let’s give credit where credit is due, but let’s not get too carried away just yet. Right now, Carter is playing the best he ever has, but if we’re going to be completely honest, let’s notice that Carter is at -1. Kopitar has nearly the same shooting percentage, has put up three more points, and is +10. Williams is +12. You have to love that Carter seems more interested in the weaker areas of his game, but just take away a couple of those empty netters and/or a couple of those strangely fortuitous pin ball ricochets when he wasn’t even shooting, and Carter’s +/- would be a little embarrassing for a guy depositing all those biscuits!
Carter’s never been a playmaker, at least not if goals-to-assists is the measure, and he still isn’t. Throughout most of his career he’s had dismal to terrible Corsi numbers (a better measure than +/- of who’s pressing the attack when a player is on the ice). His over game is improved so far this season, but not exceptionally so apart from what’s in the ‘G’ column. Just bein’ real. Jeff’s a great skater and a pure trigger man, and beyond that, well . . . not really so much. I’ll happily take all those goals, though.

@wes, 6 GWG goals this year ain’t to shabby as it leads the league. Every shooter gets deflections and EN goals once in a while. His defense has improved greatly here simply because D was not stressed in Philly or Columbus. DL built this team with a D mentality and no player skates here without playing D first. I would have given JJ, a 1st and a 2nd for Carter every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

@King Alex, 6 GWG is excellent, but i didn’t mention anything about deflections (pass attempts that ricochet off of opponents equipment are not deflections), i didn’t mention the overall team defense, i didn’t mention Jack Johnson or what that trade was or theoretically might have been if you’d been the GM. That list of non sequiturs doesn’t make anything i commented untrue. 2nd in the league in goal scoring and still -1 on a + team, Carter is not ‘a complete player’ on defense as you had stated (Lewis, who rarely scores, _always_ has a better +/- that Carter, and please don’t read that as a statement other than precisely what it is). All those goals are awesome, but it’s okay to recognize the whole truth, and it’s okay to acknowledge all the facts, not just our favourite ones.
Hey, I’m _very_ happy with Carter’s season to date, how could the Kings and their fans not be?! No need to read things into my comment than aren’t there. I just disagree with your view that “Carter is a complete player both offensively & defensively.”

@King Alex, I fully admit I was against the Carter trade because of Carter’s contract and the BS stories on him. Should of known better not to listen to BS stories from these supposed hockey towns. Both DS and Carter turned out to be a whole lot different than the stories told about them from their previous employment.

Congrats Carter! Now it is time to trade since his value will never be higher

As far as TNT Toffoli is concerned, I believeit’s nothing more than Occam’s Razor. I believe he his here for a taste of the NHL & to spell dinged up wingers from time to time while he is here. I do not believe a trade is imminent as we are month away from the trade deadline. DL needs to see his NHL potential & where he fits in so he can make decisions regarding next years cap & roster.

OT,
I think Toffoli is here to be worked into the lineup little by little, and in this compressed season might help keep a few guys fresh. If he starts putting up some serious numbers, he’s sure to be rewarded with additional TOI. Either way, it appears DL sees a future for him and wants to start working him into a few NHL level games.

@jess, agree…everyone here is having fun with speculation but reality is he is here just in case of injuries….fatique…and for DL/DS to see what he can do during practice/games against the top players…No need to trade…the Kings are playing well and can get better with the players they have…

DL is just showcasing Toffoli so he can trade him to Philly so we can get Bryz and then send Bryz to Anaheim with Bernier for Perry who we can then send to Pitt for Malkin who we can then send to to Philly for Schenn and Simmonds. Wait, maybe I got that order screwed up. Toffoli to Philly…..

Not sure why this surprising to some of you. Roster spot open..what do you do? Call up the most NHL ready forward in the minors since he has earned this right. It doesn’t mean someone is hurt, it doesn’t mean someone is being traded. It’s called having depth. Now that Toffoli is up here and not starting tonight, he can see and learn first hand what it will take to get into the starting lineup while simultaneously motivating the forwards currently playing that may not be playing up to their normal offensive standards or contributing the way they should be. Sutter alluded to that in his post game presser after the Calgary game.

I had no idea that the Flyers, Rangers, Bruins, Blackhawks, Devils and Capitals all played no games last week.

Nice that Sid got 11 points last week. Of course they play defense in that conference now and then.

Nice knowing that someone on the East Coast is a night owl and might have stumbled onto this guy named Carter scoring goals for the Stanley Cup champs. Yeah, there are other teams in the NHL not named Flyers, Rangers, Capitals, and Penguins.
