-Slava Voynov led the Kings with seven hits.
-Jordan Nolan registered a minus-2 in 5:54 of ice time.
The Kings have a scheduled recovery day on Wednesday. They will return to the ice at Toyota Sports Center at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 7 in advance of the game that night against the Dallas Stars.
And here’s my take with video interviews, highlights, an interesting development coming out of St. Louis and some humor sprinkled in at the end. Enjoy all you late-nighters and for those just waking up, did you happen to turn the TV off after the second?

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), I was texting with some of my buddies who flicked the game off during the second. When I told them that the game was tied, they turned it back on. Those of little faith. To be fair, I didn’t have the highest of hopes, but I always try to stick it out. Thanks for your recaps, as always.

Best game that I have attended. Wanted to thank @Michael J, @luc20rules, @Jeff R, @Kissmyblarneystones and @Duncanz & James.. Mike and I had about 7 blues fans sitting next to us. You should of heard one of the guys screaming how out of control the game was while they were up 4-1……. We had a great time repeating how out of control it really was when the kings scored 5 unanswered points.
Amazing game. Glad to meet everyone at such a great game……

@Lake Forest, I live in Kansas City, so I was subjected to the Blues broadcast since GameCenter blacks out in my area for their games. You should have heard the crap flowing out of Darren Pang’s mouth. Every penalty in favor of the Blues was absolutely correct and every penalty in favor of the Kings was a “soft call” and was met with much sighing and disbelief. Heck, even when his other announcer agreed that the boarding call (I think it was late in the 2nd) was a good call, Pang chimed in with “ABSOLUTELY NOT, HE JUST LOST HIS BALANCE AND FELL INTO THE BOARDS.”
I can’t even begin to describe how sweet it was to watch the Kings dangle victory in front of St. Louis’ face just to snatch it away in hilariously glorious fashion.

Darren Pang has to be the most lopsided, annoying, bald, midget, doofus in all of hockey. I hate that little piss ant with a passion. If I ever run into him, I swear to the hockey Gods I will let him have it for being a horrible horrible horrible announcer. I hated him a lot even before the finals last season which just put me into the danger zone. I HATE HIM! Ferraro is the other annoying little midget that hates the Kings. Almost every game last playoffs he said how they didn’t have a chance. Even after they swept the Blues!

My girlfriend tried multiple times (unsuccessfully) to calm me down because I was screaming at the television. I used to think that Paul Steigerwald (Pens announcer) was the worst homer in the business, but Pang has taken that title and sprinted away with it.

Some club will gladly pay him the bucks and give him the vote of confidence he deserves. Those King broadcasts do have a director and you have to wonder who ordered that remote camera shot of Bernier and Quick during the TV timeout. It wasn’t that much of a stretch to suggest the goalies were ignoring each other.

@rick,
I think Penner is playing superb hockey right now. He’s a key cog in the machine. And – to me, anyway – he’s a fascinating player. We tend to assess most players’ performance on the basis of various statistics. While Penner’s numbers are rapidly improving, I don’t think he can best be evaluated via this, that, or the other set of stats. With him, more than any other player on the team, it’s mental. And it’s easy to see. He’s capable of playing complete games in “La-la Land,” and he’s capable of sustaining focus throughout a game. When he’s “there,” mentally, he’s more than formidable, and presents all kinds of problems to opponents. The guy’s size makes it easy to overlook his considerable skills set. He can motor. He’s agile. He’s got good hands. He’s got good hockey vision. So while he’s been deserving of criticism (particularly last season, while dealing with some personal issues), he’s also deserving of some props.

So yet again the boys get zero recognition on the NHL network. The lead story was the Blackhawks winning again which is of course understandable. But you’d expect the Kings with their monumental comeback would be next up but no, they go with the Flyers/Rangers. Ok, well then how about after that game? Nope. Canadiens/Islanders then Boston/Caps was next, and yes, wait for it…..all East Coast teams. Plus on their tease for what’s coming up after the break, not a single highlight of the game. If anyone ever states that there is no ECB they need to get their heads examined. It is rampant……

@KC23, To be fair, some people here thought the trade (including the 1st) was a bad idea, and hindsight is always 20/20. Carter obviously wasnt happy in Columbus and thats always a big factor in contributions, and he’s been lights out here since he regained his footing.. but I still believe the BJs got a good return for him and it’s a win-win.
I can’t excuse Button for his assessment of the Kings D tho… he shows the usual east coast bias, in that all he is focused on is scoring D. To not realize the contributions that Scuderi, Green and especially Mitchell were making to the team last season is to be almost hockey blind. AND to say the organization wasn’t deep at D when it was in fact the only area we WERE deep… silly.
[Reply]
Great gut check win last night. We own the 3rd period. Now seeing contributions coming from everyone, reminescent of the drive to the Cup last spring. I’ve been a fan literally since my first game at age 9 in 1971. What a dream come true for an unwaivering supporter of this franchise for 42 years now. Last year’s Stanley Cup winners were relentless forecheckers. The last two nights, the Predators and Blues were absolutely on their heels in the third period as the Kings went for the jugular. Let the Black Hawks get all the attention while we round into the same form that delivered us the promised land last year. If/when Greene and Mitchell return, Sutter is going to have some tough decisions to make regarding these fabulous young defensemen. Kudos to Cliffy for delivering the knockout blow literally. Go Kings Go. Let’s get ready for Dallas!

The Capitols comeback over the Bruins from down 3-0 to an overtime victory was far more dramatic than the Kings coming back against an injury plagued Blues team. While DS is worried about the shot count, I have far more concerns about the constant cycle of mistakes the team makes every game. What they get away with at home has translated into a .500 road record.
