On whether the Kings are becoming a more difficult team to play against at home:
“I don’t know. I have no idea because the team changes. With the schedule the way it is, I’ve just talked to players more about [that] it’s not that we’re at home, it’s back-to-backs, travel, coming and going. Even this month, we have crazy back-to-backs. You play after a home game, you play on the road the next night. Really, the only time it ever sets up at home, an actual ‘home game’ for me is when there are two days before, so that you manage it properly. Not the game, but leading into the game. I really haven’t put a whole lot of thought into it or used it as any sort of a strong point for us. I think that obviously I don’t like to be home too long and I don’t like to be on the road too long. I think it can get monotonous both ways.”
On whether the use of video becomes more prevalent when on-ice sessions are cut down:
“Yeah, I think you have to, especially…with the team getting so much younger again. They learn it three ways. They learn by seeing it, they learn by hearing it and they learn by doing it, and if you’re not allowed to do it enough – other than games – then they have to see it more. That’s very natural. That’s not just because they’re athletes. That’s how we learn it, too, and we’re very good at two of the three. Not very many of us are good at all three of them. I’m always better at ‘doing it’…but you may be better at ‘seeing it’. ‘OK, that’s how it’s supposed to be,’ and you may be better at just being told how to do it. The more you can give them – without overloading – then it’s better for them. That’s the best way.”
On whether “being on the same page” was illustrated by perseverance despite the lack of shots early:
“You know what, the media asked me that after the game. You know what? We were dead-on [with] what we wanted to do. We wanted to be a quicker team early. We wanted to try and play in their zone. We wanted to have some more speed at the red line. We were awesome at it. You know what? Who cares if we had any shots? Actually, we only needed two last night, right? So, who cares? It’s just a stat, right? And it’s not a real very good one, because if you actually do it, it’s usually wrong…It had no bearing on last night. I liked that. I really liked the way we were playing. That’s what I kept telling the players. It’s just composure. Balance your composure and intensity. Don’t be getting away from what we want to do. Just do that. We had a lot of good looks. We were getting shots blocked. We were missing the net by this much. So just don’t worry about it. That’s basically what I said the whole first two periods, one thousand times.”
I think that Quick will start tonight but if he gives up a Goal we need to change the Goalie for the kings incase if Quick will be good or not

@Lake Forest,
To me, it’s simple. Who’s going to give you the best chance to win that night? Right now, it’s obvious that JB is the guy. Call it riding the hot goaltender or whatever, but JB has gotten into a rhythm while JQ has struggled.
You’ll want to get Quick back on track eventually, but the points are critical in the shortened season, made even more so by the early struggles they had.
As for trading DD, that’s just crazy talk. Unless you’re getting the first overall pick in a draft that has another Stamkos or DD, I don’t see that happening.

@vplaza, Totally agree. Go with who’s hot. This is not about being “impatient” or “emotional” at all. It is about Sutter sticking with his philosophy of going with who is playing well. In other words, Quick will have to earn his job back, just like everybody else. Which means that the moment Bernier loses a game, JQ will be back in the net…

@Lake Forest, You’re sooooo right. But I have to admit that for me personally, it’s a lot easier to be rational and logical now that our team’s name is on the Cup! There’s no reason not to be patient as this is the team that won it all last year. Any talk about moving Quick or DD or ANY of our core assets just seems silly.

Its too freaking soon.
We have a team built for the long haul,
They are only focused on the standings at the moment.
The points of contention are the same argumentaive lines over and over.
You know who has been impressing me and gets little attention.
Fras. And last night was one of his most stellar.
How many line combos did we see last night? Did anyone complain then? No
Why?
Cause we won.
Pens also impressed me last night, he was aggressive.
Last night was a great game. Cant we dwell on that a bit more?

@Lake Forest, I am not saying trade Quick but at some point you will need to trade one of them. Bernier was originally drafted to be our #1 and is the more technical sound goalie. So don’t trade now but in the future something has to give, Bernier will not want to sit on thebench next year. You can proably get more in a trade from Quick. Trading Doughty is ridiculous.

@Neil, i’ve been pro bernier in the past and still think that he might very well be the better long term goalie to keep. for now it is good that the kings have two great options in goal. the only way bernier has a chance of staying is if he gets enough games in and keeps playing like he has in his 5 starts so far.

Let me start out by saying it is laughable that people are even mentioning Quick to be traded. That being said, it is widely known that goaltenders do not get the same kind of return that defensemen and forwards get in trades. I personally believe that there really wouldn’t be so much of a difference in what Quick would pull in versus Bernier in respect to draft picks/players because of that reason. Based upon this, I say we continue with the guy who has had 3 years of proven success and the hard evidence that he can lead his team to the cup. Absolutely nothing against Bernier, but if we can only have one I would much rather have Quick due to his resume. I understand people may say “well Bernier hasn’t had a chance yet to prove he can do it.” Guess what, life isn’t fair and he will make a name for himself somewhere else.

Before marrying Jonathan Quick to the Kings for any extended period of time check out the Bruin’s goaltender depth chart and ask yourself where Tim Thomas fits in. Reality is Quick should be Bernier’s backup right now, not the other way around. Quick is not being being crucified and Daryl Evans seems to be the only voice of the Kings giving Bernier the credit he deserves for saving the Kings season thus far.

I hope JB doesnt stumble tonight or the teeter-totter posters here will be demanding to know why Quick didnt play in a back-to-back situation and so on and so forth. I havent seen sign one that DS doesnt have a complete handle on his team and I’m going to trust his smarts and instincts.
