Martinez in; Drewiske out

Alec Martinez will enter the Kings lineup in the place of Davis Drewiske for tonight’s game against Nashville.

“It was just a matter of getting practices in and things like that,” said Martinez, who missed eight games due to an upper-body injury. Los Angeles was 6-2-0 in his absence.

The 25-year-old left-shooting defenseman has one goal, two points and an even rating in 11 games this season. He will be paired with Keaton Ellerby, which maintains Sutter’s preference of pairing an offensively capable puck-mover with a stay-at-home defenseman when possible.

Drewiske, 28, has appeared in all 19 games this season, recording one goal, four points and a plus-five rating.

More from Sutter will be posted shortly.

    Yay, DD2 is brutal to watch trying to make outlet passes and he is not very good on the PK either, fine with parking him back on the bench

    PRMan Reply:

    @Bfreedom, Actually, I’ve only found I like DD2 WHEN he’s on the PK. And occasionally in the offensive zone, he’s a bit creative.

    But in the D zone 5-on-5 has been stressful lately.

    Bfreedom Reply:

    @PRMan, I don’t think he boxes out very well, his sticks are never in lanes, and he can’t clear the zone to save his life

    @Bfreedom, true about DD2, he’s just there. One reason our D won the cup for us was their stick in passing and shooting lanes. They were not really very offensive too which was better. Made them more think about D then offense.

    @DesertKing, This is when I get confused about how to write the plus/minus…If he was a minus 5..would it be written plus–5 ??? Why its not written..plus 5 ?

    Neil Reply:

    @Neil, I meant it would be written Plus–5 ???

    @Neil, my second – is not showing up…….plus – - 5 ??

    DesertKing Reply:

    @Neil,

    That sounds like “new” math to me, and I didn’t do well with the “old” math either. I just write “+5″ or “-5″, but then again, I just like my nachos plain.

    @Neiling, minus-5

    fuzzerson Reply:

    @Duncanz, so kind of like a double negative a minus-5 is really a +5

    Duncanz Reply:

    Now that really is some ‘@fuzzerson math’ !

    Drewiske hasn’t been looking so good the last few games. Hopefully, AM is close to being in game shape and will be able to step in w/o showing too much rust.

    You’ve done a great job since taking over. One thing that I might suggest is that we all really want to know ASAP which goalie was the first one off the ice. Thanks

    DesertKing Reply:

    @Neil,

    DS: What he said, what he meant -

    McD’s stopped buying Alberta beef – I like IN-N-Out
    Quick needs a better save percentage – I am beginning to like Bernier’s game
    You’ve got to earn your spot back – If the guy in your spot starts to suck, you get to play
    Winning the Cup was great – Now I don’t have to listen to any more crap from my brothers
    His game is getting better – You need to start looking over your shoulder at the press box
    Its a 3-2 league – You guys better start scoring 4 per game
    This ain’t baseball – I don’t have to tell you guys anything
    Nobody died – Yet
    They are a really good team – but we are better

    Ellerby was making quickest decision while DD2 was making poorest decision among 6. To me, this is the obvious choice since 2 days ago.

    KingsGRT Reply:

    @goldielocks, Agreed altho i think that DD2 has been the weakest link of the Dmen for a while now. KE at least has times when he seems totally capable. DD2 just always takes too long, makes bad decisions, and gives me a heartattack

    @KingsGRT,

    DD2 has a plus 5
    Good thing you’re paying attention to Doughty’s plus/minus then. We’d have buried you already.

    Nashville’s most dangerous on the counterattack with speed. As we saw against VAN, defending that is not Whiskey’s strong suit. Whiskey seems to know where to be and is willing to take one for the team, but he doesn’t finish plays. He seems hesitant to pinch to keep the forecheck going, and to step up at our blue line. He also doesn’t play all that physical for his size. I could see him as a regular in a lineup somewhere else, but for the Kings he’ll always be #7.

    DS really is performace driven. I agree with this, but somehow didn’t think it would happen this way. Feel real bad for DD2, but that is how it works under DS.

    Hard to believe nearly 4 weeks have flashed by since we last played these guys.
    So in actuality the difference in personnel from the two early losses to the Preds is; Quick, Whiskey, Gags out / Bernie, Ellerby, Penns in.
    The other big difference is that you can score 4,5 & 6 goals a night on them now.
    They’ve given up 28 in their last 8, so that much is extremely encouraging.

    It’s a tough call on one of our D men getting benched. However, I thought Sutter said it would be a competition to see if Marty gets back in the lineup. I didn’t think DD2 played bad enough to loose his starting position. I may give DD2 too much credit for practicing all season last year to only play a handful of games. Sure, he’s playing hockey for a living, but to be a healthy scratch for nearly an entire season has got to be tough.
