@goldielocks,
Funnel play! Low cycle from the corner and behind the net and walk it right to the post and bang away. That will turn those shot blockers’ heads around and open those seams and points for shots. This is a hard way to play, but if you pay the price you can beat this team.

The 2nd line is AWOL tonight.
The 3rd line is as well.
The 1st line is marginally better (they got a cycle going at the tail end of a PP)
The 4th line is only slightly better than the 1st line, but with no finishing skill.
The defense looks lost in their own zone. Turnovers galore.
Only Bernier is the one who looked like he came ready to play in the 1st period.
Sad.

although I like to see the development of the young defense, and i realize Ellerby was brought in as insurance, it is apparent to me that the Kings lack that swagger defensively…Amart looks a little hesitant tonight (only natural)…But, the biggest thing is not having Greener and Willie …remember…as much well diserved credit we like to give to JQ for the cup, that PK last year during the playoff run was a pure, straight beautiful thing to watch…The PK is only marginal this year…we need our big D-men back fast

Bernier gave us a chance to win by stopping a few shots from the middle of the ice. Great poise and positioning. We have to give Bernier more starts until Quick finds his game. Great to see King get one, he is streaky so lets hope it continues. Penner played awesome. Carts is hands down our best forward this year. Kopi, it’s your line’s turn tomorrow!!!

6 shots through 2 periods–4 goals in the 3rd was easy to predict, no?
NHL Network already gone from Staples. Yeah, I just love seeing the Tampa Bay/Pittsburgh highlights for the 10th time. At least I could see the game and the Preds getting their butts kicked.

Love Quick, but I’d like to see Bernier tomorrow again. There’s a hot streak happening with him allowing only 1 goal in each of his last 5 games. He’s HOT, there’s no denying that.
Quick will be back and better, but let Bernier do his thing and get some points out of him.

Smyth did the Kings a huge favor by asking for that trade. Not only did the trade bring Fraser here, but the cap space he opened up helped bring in Richards and Carter.

@jess, agreed. However, defense was good tonight. On more than one occasion they blocked shots, kept Preds to a lot of outside shot attempts. I honestly don’t think Bernier had too many “big” saves except towards the end when Preds offense decided not to go down without a fight

@Mars, I have asked that same question myself several times. Our D steps up so well when JB is in the pipes then I think they have long memories of JQ in net last year so they rely on him to stop pucks. To be fair, on Legends (afternoon) game whatever you wanna call it, the defense did really well; it wasn’t a subpar game on that day and JQ was in net (though a small part of me wished JB was in net just cuz he had the cooler mask and pads!)

@Harrison Merkin, You make it seem like Quick (our Conn Smythe winning goalie) is totally lame and can’t be trusted. He is a beast in net when he is on and you all know that. We rode Quick last year because he was on fire (with actual shutouts), Bernier was battling, and Quick is the #1. You heard what Bernier said after the game. The big difference for him this year has been confidence. We have to have our #1 have confidence too. He is human after all and it is VERY needed in order to be successful in sports. Quick will play tomorrow and when he does well I hope everyone will back off of this “Quick sucks, trade him, make Bernier the #1″ mentality. This takes nothing from Bernier. I am very happy he is doing so well, but I have not lost site of where the Kings future is and that is with Quick. And I, for one, am very happy and confident in that.

@jess, That wasn’t directed at you. Sorry about that. The “you guys” was more directed at the Bernier bandwagoners out there posting nonsense about making Bernier the new #1 and talking about getting rid of Quick. It wasn’t even so much directed at @Harrison Merkin either. Just a general statement. I should have made it it’s own post.
Harrison Merkin Reply:

@jess, Well then allow me to retort. Yes DS has played this dilemma of having Quick and Bernire very well. That said….play the hot goalie. Quick needs to find his angles and find his comfort zone with the new D in front of him. He’s over playing plain and simple. In my opinion he is the one King who has suffered the most with the loss’s of Green and Mitchell. SooooOoooo in my opinion…..if Sutter intends to continue plainly this “decently” he should start Bernier. I’ll go back to my day job now.
Good to see all that speed on the Fraser line. Bernier looking sound in net. Seems like every game is crucial, so obviously a big win. Way to go Kinger with his 1st of the year. I’m getting to like Muzzin and Ellerby more and more.

@KingMe20, For sure. Muzzin I think only had maybe one or two turnovers, he looked confident with the puck (still doing a lot of chipping into the other zone, though) and he made some sweet hits. Ellerby is doing a good job as just a stay at home defense guy. I saw him get into shooting lanes, he didn’t hesitate on his man and he was aggressive on the checking. I see promising things in the future of these 2 guys.

Check out the replay of the Nashville goal. The play was offside at the blue line. The puck was held up on the line, never brought over, until the forward was in the zone. Goal shouldn’t have counted. Just an observation, not that it matters much.
