@Neil, Not anymore, he already used it up a few times. Stunk up the joint big time! I was really hoping that Sutter would pull him after the 3rd goal. Didn’t happen and the team caved in as opposed to trying to rally back.
Now, I’m not saying that JB is better than JQ, but he is playing better NOW. Go with the hot hand.

@soo-do-nihm, EVERYONE has bad days/nights……except possibly me. Just kidding. Ever get one of those days where you wake up and just say “I don’t feel like working too hard today”, and you don’t. You show up, take care of the important stuff but don’t go seeking out solutions on those imprtant but not urgent matters. It must really be tough for professional hockey players. Moreso than any other sport. Especially this season. They can’t do that? Crashbang/eat/sleep/wakeup/eat/crashbang…repeat. All while traveling and away from the family nursing your wounds. Sure some of the money is obscene but that doesn’t make it much easier. Why we love da “game”.

@mask0425x,
My guess is that there are more factors than we can understand to it. The guy just came off a ridiculous season that he now has to live up to. But then he has back surgery, which obviously affected his play. And it’s not just the physical effects, there are mental effects too… fear of further injury, confidence, comfort, etc. On top of that, while he’s trying to completely recover, there’s another goalie who was basically predestined to be the #1 guy and has recently been playing pretty well who is now knocking on that door. Kind of a lot of pressure all at once.
I don’t really know him, so I could be dead wrong, but Quick doesn’t strike me as the type to let a contract extension influence the way he plays. He’s too competitive for that.

@FiG17, Those factors are the defense. They played better defense last season. They didn’t get sucked into a run-and-gun style, because they knew it wasn’t their game.

@JD, Little harsh. I agree this was not a good game for him but look at his stats the 3 games prior. It is fair to say he has not had a great season so far but to flat out call him a “not a good goalie right now” isn’t exactly fair. He had a bad night and had 3 good games before it. To say he needs to be great every game and win every game or else he is deemed bad is just taking it a little far in my opinion.

@JD,
There need to be some reality checks. First, the Quick of last season would have stopped two of last night’s goals. However, the Quick of last season was playing at an almost unprecedented level. This season, so far at least, he’s been merely good rather than great. And so far this season Bernier has been very good, bordering on great, except for his relief appearance against the Ducks. Because of this there is little likelihood that Bernier will be moved this season. But make no mistake about it, Bernier’s days as a member of the Kings are well and truly numbered.
At the end of the day Quick was the goalie who led us to the promised land and that, if for no other reason, should be why no one should be too quick (pun intended) to throw him under the bus. And he was rewarded with a lucrative contract, long-term contract as a result of leading us to the promised land So make no mistake about it, Quick, not Bernier, will be our long-term No. 1 goalie. Those facts notwithstanding, Bernier is still here so it is time for the Jolly Rancher to do what he said he’d do and go with the hot goalie.

@Forum67, I agree, bernier a days as a king are numbered, quicks contract is untradeable, nobody wants a goalie who, relies on athletic ability, that is comming off back surgery, that is struggling, and best of all still has 10 years and 50 million left on his contract… Quick is untradeable, for better or worse were stuck with him for many years… At least bernier is increasing his trade value…. Maybe AEG will step up, and buy out quick… Naw don’t see anschutz paying him 50 million, not to play for him

Hopefully, if Quick doesn’t get it turned around Bernier will remain hot and get most of the starts.

@Quicked, Well there were a couple goals that he allowed that *maybe* he should’ve gotten (like the first 1 where he reached out with his glove instead of sliding across or the one where he kept on sliding and Henrik Sedin just shot it into a wide open net). But I’m not a goalie coach so I can’t point out any errors or what not. He just did not appear to be in top form tonight to my not-so-keen-untrained-eye.

@Kasey9,
I don’t agree. Hansen’s goal really irks me, and not because Quick didn’t stop it, but because three Kings were around him when he had the puck, and none of them thought to knock him on his ass. That kind of effort only magnifies a bad night for the goalie.
This was a team loss. I can only point to three guys who played decently tonight: Muzzin, Nolan and Penner, and I would only rate those guys at about a B- / C+.

@SDGolfer, Quick has always owned every single goal he gave up. Not one of them happened in a vacuum, though. It isn’t just quick, just like it wasn’t the game Berns came in for him and got lit up. Some games the other team feels it–particularly when you stop playing defense.

@Quicked,
If are prone to playing the blame game let’s place it on the team, including Quick. There were probably two stoppable goals against the Canucks. But my concern isn’t Quick, at least not yet. My concern remains, despite our recent outburst of scoring, the offense. Here’s hoping Justin Williams’ goal awakens him from his season long slumber.
[Reply]
Its alright Quick, just take a seat on the bench, let Bernier role…
[Reply]
Did anyone else happen to notice how Quick was shaking his head after at least two of those goals? As if he were saying, “Man, how the heck did I let that one through?!?” I don’t recall seeing him do that too frequently, if ever. Wonder if he’s struggling a bit with his confidence, maybe?

@Anaheim Kings Fan, Yes.

The first goal was not quicks fault. If you watch the reply you’ll see the blame mostly goes to clifford. He was basically standing on top of Frasier. at one point cliffy even looks back to the blue line to see where Hamhuis was, naturally clifford saw no one because Hamhuis was already down low at the R circles, and yet Clifford still didn’t adjust to finding where his man actually was, a second later clifford reacts to late on trying to defend a wide open Hamius.
Some of the blame could be placed on Frasier who let Daniel Sedin just stand in front of the net unguarded. Frasier was pointlessly covering the middle of the slot on the wrong side of Daniel. If you pause the reply you’ll see Burrows could have just as easily made an open pass to Daniel Sedin which probably would have led to a goal as well. Having Daniel Sedin just sitting in the slot unguarded (except by Doughty who was already covering Burrows) could have played a factor in Quick’s response to the play. In that split second he could have thought the pass was intended for Daniel.
Now even if Frasier takes his man, they probably still score. But both Clifford and Frasier looked lost out there as far as what they were supposed to be doing.
And for anyone who knows better then myself I was also wondering if it is Nolan’s job to collapse on Henerik there? I don’t think so, but Once scuderi went down someone has to put pressure on Henerik, and if not Nolan Then Who?
[Reply]
Good game! Sure miss Willy Mitchell playing for our team! Iz he dun fer tha season?
[Reply]
I’ll say it again. Kings fans are frail. Kings just came off a 7 and 1 run. Quick played great during that span. All 4 goals came from in between the dots. 1 even came back door off a cross ice pass down low through the slot that no one could have saved and no one else who was on the ice at the time even realized ahead of time that the pass would be made. Just lose 1 out of 6 and screw having faith in this team or the players who just (not to long ago) won the greatest prize imaginable in record fasion. It’s like watching the same reaction after the first game of the season all over again.

@Dominick, I won’t disagree with you about the lily-livered nature of a certain proportion of pundits here, but at least most Kings fans are not resting on the laurels of winning the only Stanley Cup in 45 years.
New season and a new challenge now, bigger than before. The Cup has been won but now it’s going to be even tougher to hold onto it.
Our beloved JQ knows he cannot afford to rest on his past achievements either, and he won’t.
He is reliably self-critical after every loss, of course, but when DS says he’s fighting the puck, he’s probably fighting the puck, right?
So as for the paying public, we can either choose to hold him to his stellar standards of last season or to continue to hand him free passes on nights like this one.
But sooner or later the chips will be down and the steadiest goaltender will get the call most nights.
As, I think @Cesar noted on the game thread it’s just a little too early to be scoreboard watching, but very soon it won’t be any longer and your best players are going to HAVE to be your best players on a nightly basis.
And we don’t yet have many of our best players doing just that.

@Duncanz,
Goals #1 and #4 were on the Defense.
Goals #2 and #3 were on Quick.
Stevens has got to work Martinez back in by Monday and remind all D-men that on a 2 on 1, the D-man has to take one player and the goalie the other.
Hextall has to work with Quick on his glove. 2 and 3 were Seven Hole.
No panic – just more coaching. We’ve got to remember that this shortened season hasn’t allowed for time to practice. It’s basically play and recover.
All will be well.

One bad game doesn’t make the season. It wasn’t game seven of the SCF. Every team is gonna have a game like that. Vancouver is very talented. they were pumped up last night. I’d be much more concerned about whether Doughty can ever again become a Norris Trophy finalist than I’d be about Quick becoming a Conn Smythe Trophy caliber goalie again. Quick will get back to where he was. Doughty is another story. But you’re right, neither of them is playing at the level those big contracts call for.

Quick is giving me flashbacks of Dan “The Swiss Cheese” Cloutier. Quick needs to step it up! No excuses! He might not be God, but he is an NHL goalie and there is no reason why an NHL goalie will win the Cup one year, then choke the following season. I think Quick needs to bring his ego down and start playing like he was last season. 3 goals on 5 shots is not acceptable for a NHL goalie wether or not he’s God.
