Depictions of the Pacific Northwest don’t get much more accurate than this photo. The Bayshore West Marina and its expensive boats sit in the foreground of a narrow inlet. The entrance to Stanley Park, guarded by tall evergreen trees, lies shrouded by a veil of fog under drizzly skies. To the left, tall condominiums jut out of the cityscape, and you can only imagine how much fleece and North Face gear are stored within those doors. The squawk of seagulls and the sight of kayakers are now present – though not depicted in the photo – as the city of Vancouver awakens to a Saturday in which the Kings will face the Canucks at Rogers Arena.

Correction Jon: awakening to a Saturday in which the Kings WILL DEFEAT the Vancouver Canucks

First two minutes of the game Nolan drops Sestito with a left hook to the jaw and an uppercut. Knockout!

To really make it special would be a Lion racing down the inlet in a speed boat!

@Oldmanlalande, LOL….with the Stanley Cup starboard side.

Looks depressing. Must match the mood of a city that won’t win the Stanley Cup. I have noticed a lot more sunshine in So Cal since last June 11, 2012.

Nice view Jon
Damn I wake up in hotel rooms to either construction or a parking lot view.

@nykingsfan, I always sleep best knowing I’ll have a view of a munters unit in the morning.

Hey Jon,
I’m looking to meet some of the Kings this morning to get an autograph and wish them will.
I am going to the game to ight but figure it may be easier at the pregame skate. Any suggestions/tips??

“you can only imagine how much fleece and North Face gear are stored within those doors.” Hahahahaha dude your hilarious! As a So-Cal transplant in the PacNW I like to refer to it as “action wear.”

@Uknojata, I was once an Angeleno transplanted into the land of dressing down at every occasion. I stopped short of saying “Not pictured: quirky, passive-aggressive locals afraid to sustain eye contact”. That could also just be a Seattle thing.

In other news, enjoy last night’s Monarchs highlights including Andy Andreoff scoring a beauty with only :43 left to tie it. Fantastic.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Thanks for sharing, Paul. I wish I can watch Monarchs hockey. Where do they televise it?
I thought Monarchs hockey is supposed to emulate Kings hockey. I didn’t see a good quality stay at home D man. Slot in front of jones is undefended too many times, that’s a recipe for disaster! I hope DS is aware of this MAJOR flaw in the Kings minor team. NOT GOOD!!

@rogiesbackup, Well, since the begining of the year, they have lost Campbell, Hickey, Voynov, Muzzin. Where would the Kings be if they lost 4 top defenencemen. Oh, nevermind

A fiction writer hidden inside a sportswriter gently taps on his keyboard. The room is filled with the intoxicating scent of Colombian roasted beans and the fresh flowers that made their way on to the room service cart. Hockey on his mind but a tragic love story ready to pour out of him to the tune of 5,000 words a day.
Great description of the Vancouver view. You might as well head through Stanley Park and over to Squamish or continue through to Whistler. I mean, you’re already there.

@DesertKing, We can’t really say anything about that thanks to some dumb Laker fans (and I’m a Laker fan) and some rioting that has occurred here in LA in the past.

Just curious: shouldn’t Vancouver be forced to rename “Stanley Park” to “President’s Cup One-and-Done Park”?
