@SLIM,
Which is crazy, right?
The one thing I’ve noticed that they are doing is attacking our passes coming out of our zone head on rather than laterally. They run the high forward right down the path of our center trying to receive the pass. It’s disruptive. They had success with that against us when TM was coach. I remember Lewis got demolished by Hansen on a play like that.
If the passer can recognize and hold on for another second, we’ll catch that guy and beat 2 with one pass.

@Neil,
I stand by my statement… hold onto your butt in the second and third.
OKay…PP looked a little better…but even though the Kings are somehow outshooting the Nucks…it sure doesn’t feel that way…and those shots have to be coming from closer in…I want to see some crashing and banging in the next period, but they have to be smart…they can’t take runs…you know, it’s a CBC national broadcast and the Nucks will get any marginal calls either way…As evidenced by the two non-calls early on in the period

I think he does a good job trying to stay objective. If you watch the camera on he and Bob from Game Six though, it’s pretty obvious he roots for the Kings, but I think sometimes he goes out of his way to try to be objective. There was no doubt that he was wrong on the hit on Clifford though.

@Pili,
Jim Fox immediately disputed the call on Alpert, arguing that Clifford was already on the way down so it wasn’t a high hit. Then Jim saw the wrong signal from the ref and thought it was a boarding call. Then he said he could understand how Alpert would be upset. He never mentioned that Alpert’s forearm to his own eye level and hit Clifford in the head.

@KingsOfKomedy, Quick has lost a step since last year’s playoffs. However, he is the one who kept the Kings in the playoff hunt last season. I agree that Bernier should start more games since he is the sharper goaltender of the two. Quick must work with Bill Ranford more. Otherwise, Bernier will be the #1 goaltender the rest of the way. Our defense allowed the Canucks to shot from the slot too much in this game. Our defense is struggling in this game. Time for Kopitar, Carter, Williams to step up their game in the 3rd period. Otherwise, this game is over. How I dislike those “buffoons green men” so much?
[Reply]
Anyone think the D might be feeling pressure with Martinez returning? Seems like some of them are overthinking things. Quick seems to be getting more and more frustrated with himself and is losing his cool… which isn’t like him. :/

And I think we all need to be a bit more patient with Quick before we start calling Bernie our #1. It’s great that we have Bernier to pick up the slack and to step up, but Quick had back surgery… it’s going to take some time for him to get back to his usual form and I don’t have any doubt that he will.

soo-do-nihm Reply:

@FiG17, They’re nearly halfway through the season. How long do we keep using his back surgery as an excuse for poor play? He’s not showing up as the Vezina candidate he was last year or the Conn Smythe trophy winner. He needs to step up his game in a big way.

If the score holds true, gotta give Jon Rosen credit for a little forshadowing in a post from thursday.
JR – The quote that has stuck with me more than any other quote this season belongs to Dustin Brown. He offered it after the loss in Detroit – then the team’s fourth in five games – in what was an excellent effort for nearly all of the game’s 60 minutes. “Sometimes you say at the end of losing streaks and at the end of winning streaks sometimes you’re losing games you shouldn’t, and sometimes you’re winning games you shouldn’t, as well,” he said before the team rattled off wins in seven of eight. Not to cast an ominous cloud over the impending Vancouver game, but if the Kings are going to take two points from Rogers Arena on Saturday night, they’re going to need to show more than what was offered in a fortunate home win on Wednesday.

Quick looks bad no doubt, but I blame the team more than Quick. They are reaching with their sticks and not willing to take the body, 3 guys on a Canuck with the puck and not one of them teied to knock him on his ass, they all poked with the stick and he scored a soft goal on Quick.
I hate losing to this team more than any team, more than the Ducks, more than the Sharks…they play dirty, they take cheap shots, slashing, cross checking, hitting too far from the boards twice on Kopitar that could have caused an injury….but you know what….we arent pushngi back physically so we get what we get. Quick got wacked in the first after a whistle, he was visibly upset at the Canuck and not one Kings got in that players face. How badly I miss Greene and Mitchells nastyness on the blue line, in the corners, and in front of the net….we look like push overs out there stretching with our sticks praying we hit the puck while the Canucks are LOOKING to hit ANY chance they get.
Did I mention I hate the Canucks

The whole team lost this game, not just Jonathan Quick. They scored only 2 goals, 1 was a fluke, and had very little offensive chances.
The defense was not good. The 1st goal was scored by a player left wide open on the side of the net. The second goal was scored on the rush near the right circle with the d-man giving the Casucks player way too much room. The 3rd goal was scored on a 2 on 1 with probably the best 2 on 1 pairing in the league with the Sedin sisters, and the d-man gave them way too much room. The 4th goal was similar to the 2nd one in that in came from the righ circle and again the d-man gave the scorer way too much room.
The Kings need to improve their gap control, and realize that you can’t keep winning games in this league when you only show up for 10 minutes of a game.

I read these comments and I wonder do you guys even watch the game or you simply do not understand it. It was Richards who played into you face lazy game not only shutting down the whole line but allowing three goals. How about Brown ? Zero comments about his game. This is why they play better in Canada – press there would demolish them. They read your comments! For those who defend Quick please go and read Sutter comments about average saved shots %. We are not talking ONE bad game here – he is below .900% on the bottom on NHL.

@Alberto, The extra 0 confused me. But he’s still not below 90% of the other NHL goalies.
BTW, he only allowed 4 goals in the previous 3 games prior to tonight, so it’s not like has been playing like crap lately.

@Alberto,
In Quick’s defense, on the Twins 2 on 1, Scuds played it right down the middle.
In the old days, when I played defense, you took one guy, and the goalie had the responsibility for the other.
Stick on the ice, sliding backwards on one knee toward your goalie didn’t look like Scuds picked one or the other.

Duncanz Reply:

@IceGuy, May I politely disagree on that?
Scuds is positioned well and makes sure he has the return pass covered while giving Daniel the outside shot that you simply expect your goalie to deal with. When the shot is imminent, he turns his stick to stop a possible shot along the ice, further helping his goaltender, but alas the shot is perfectly placed and the goalie is not.
If anyone, the Dman you ought to be picking out is VV who is on an adventure into no man’s land and gets completely bypassed, leaving Scuds with the nigh impossible task of preventing the twin terrors.
Verdict: Not guilty. Full acquittal. Scuds walks free.

@Alberto, You do realize this is a fan blog, right? Where fans can rant and rave about certain players? And how about people commenting, “Brown not hitting = losing”
And furthermore, WHY DO YOU CARE if Canadian teams are “better” and the press is more horrible there? If you love it so much, go blog on a Canucks site.

@soo-do-nihm, Because players perceive LA fans as not understanding hockey coming to watch show. Richards would not get away with such game on East Coast and Brown being a captain.I am glad I touched your nerve – this was an intent.

@Alberto, Obviously. But I still want to know – WHY DO YOU CARE? Why is your problem if Canada perceives LA fans to be stupid and unknowledgeable about hockey? Why are you a horrible person trolling on some other fan site? Why don’t you crawl back into your little hole and celebrate touching my nerve? Goody, you got me irritated. Hurray, you managed to mildly annoy one random stranger on the internet. Your life must be complete now.

@Alberto, Please name the players who perceive LA fans as not understanding Hockey…I heard differently…players are impressed on how much fans in LA know hockey…Remember when making a blanket statement ..you need facts to back it up. I dont understand Hockey(or soccer for that matter.. and I also dont understand Duncanz)but I have never HAD a hockey player tell me that iam a typical LA fan…

@Alberto, do we need to remind you that the Kings won the cup last year? Also only two out of six Canadian teams made the playoffs last season and neither one made it out of the first round. So much for the Canadian press making their teams play better.

@Neil, Oh no, not the dreaded return of Phil Sykes! I’m running for cover right now!
Nolan got dealt. I guess we don’t have a heavyweight in the lineup anymore. Not that Westgarth was a good heavyweight. As an ex-pro player, I can tell you that it is demoralizing when your teammate gets bloodied like that. Nolan needs to be smarter with his fights. He has to know that Sesito just got in the lineup and will be looking for fisticuffs. Can’t get jumped off the start like that…

-Drewiski C
-Ellerby B
-Voynov B
-Kopitar A
-Williams B+
-Brown B-

very disappointing folks, effort, energy and confidence seemed low with many. We cannot have this, lets re-group for Nashville and spank the country out of them.

@harty, When you lose the game I would expect to see quite a few C’s & D’s. Remember that a “C” is average, a “D” is below average. I would give those A & B grades if the Kings had won the game.

@harty, scuds,richards,slava,carter all -3, deserve D or F.
Quick deserves an F, no huge saves, and he will be the first one to tell you that.
