Reminder – 7:00 start time tonight

It was mentioned in another post, but please don’t forget that due to the national telecast of tonight’s game, the opening faceoff between the Kings and Red Wings will take place at roughly 7:05 pm. The game will mark the first NBCSN national broadcast by San Jose Sharks play by play broadcaster Randy Hahn and color commentator Drew Remenda. Remenda will add insight from between the benches.

@vinny, It’s alright. Bob Miller and Jim Fox are contractually precluded from doing NBC broadcasts (one would think this lesson had been learned during a not too temporally distant series of games that led to a certain team you may have heard of actually winning this Stanley Cup thing). But Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda _very_ good at what they do. And they were the all too obvious choice for NBC. Pretty much a no-brainer as things shook out. No need to get fussy, friends. It’s all good. Enjoy the game.

@wes, So long as it’s not Liam, Mike and Keith. I cannot STAND those guys. They’re always rooting for the Kings to fail. They are always horribly disappointed whenever the Kings score.

Maybe with these commentators, we’ll get some luck on our side and we’ll win this thing. :)

JB has earned the start and I’m happy to see that DS has enough confidence in his play to send him out against the Wings. I do NOT believe he’s being showcased.

The Wings will present a challenge when it comes to controlling the neutral zone. Our back-checking will need to be sound, and our positional play, steady. We’ll also need to stay out of the penalty box and gradually grind them down. I’d rather see consistency and discipline over a full 60 minutes than to see the team start like a house on fire. Let’s see a methodical demolition of tonight’s opposition…and then, repeat as necessary.

    GKG!

@Ron Reynolds, dont know if DS really trusts Bernier or Quick has a minor injury…Bernier starting tonight seems to be 100% against the way DS has used Quick in the past…

    [Reply]

    Ron Reynolds Reply:

@Neil, You certainly could be right, Neil. Let’s see if DS offers any corroborating evidence.

    [Reply]

    LT21 Reply:

@Neil, I agree there may be truth to the minor injury with Quick. This is what I posted on another thread:

I think Quick had some sort of an injury related issue in the last couple days that the LA Kings camp is kind of not talking about. Quick was supposed to make an appearance on Tuesday in the afternoon at a Long Beach Staples with Fraser and Muzzin and 45 minutes before the appearance we are told Quick won’t be coming anymore and the only reason they gave was he needed “therapy.” My question is, unless it was really needed at that time, why would they have it over his appearance? I think he probably tweaked something (nothing too serious) that needed to be addressed but to err on the side of caution they decided to play Bernier tonight. Give Quick a little extra time to heal from whatever reason had him canceling his appearance at the last minute. We know he wouldn’t do that for just no reason. I just hope he is ok.

    [Reply]

    Ron Reynolds Reply:

@LT21, That lends some credence to the possibility of a health issue. Let’s see if the team offers us anything by way of actual information.

    Duncanz Reply:

@Ron Reynolds, I agree. Clearly, JQ was being showcased vs the Ducks.

    [Reply]

    Mars Reply:

@Ron Reynolds, I see it as resting Quick and adding stock to the eventual JB trade.
While I would love to see us lock up JB as a second (or shared) netminder.
I dont think he will let it fly. Cant blame him for not wanting to play second fiddle.

I say use him before he is gone, get the moneys worth and hope his stock price rises.

    [Reply]

    LA_1968 Reply:

@Ron Reynolds, I think Coach Sutter has the same level of confidence (not 100%) in both and wants the both sharp so that when one falls the other can pick right up. Dean Lombardi also whispered something in his ear.

I think we shouldnt have traded Gagne….Would also love to see Simmonds and Schenn back.Johnson also wouldve helped with our defense this season. I missed how everyone knows Bernier is going to start tonight, but I think the reason is because next month is going to be busy, and he’s going to play back-to-back games once a week until the end of the month or until he’s traded. During that time, Quick plays three times a week, unless Bernier picks up another night or something weird happens. Either way, this is preparation for both goaltenders probably working pretty hard. It might actually be a little test for Bernier against snipers that can make you look bad, before going into March.

BTW, I didn’t know when the trading deadline is, and looked it up. It’s April 3rd. So, we’ve got most of march, and we’d probably be best served if any trade with Bernier happened AT THE END of March, because of the tight schedule.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, I am a little disturbed to think about losing Bernier…i mean, for so long the Kings did not have adequate goaltending…and here are two great goalies…if JQ were to go down to injury…you have that insurance policy in Bernier…who still gives you a chance for glory…My hesitation is,…what exactly would be coming back our way in a trade…you would either be dealing with a team that has given up and willing to trade veteran talent…or a team on the bubble…willing to deal draft picks…or both…I am just not that educated to understand what that all means

Hopefully this terrible Flyers game causes us to miss the first 10 minutes of our game

@Shakes, Shenn needs to score and make it a Kings East hat trick.
