February 25 postgame quotes: Jonathan Quick

On what led to the victory:
“We outworked them in the third, I think. Who knows. They played last night against Colorado, so maybe that played a factor in [it]. The first two periods were heavy. They were very physical. They had a lot of pace. When you’re playing back to back, sometimes it’s tough to play that style of game for 60 minutes. We were a little more fresh, I think, coming on a recovery day yesterday. We won the 20 minutes at the end, and that was what it took to win the game.”

On the importance of coming out strong in the third considering the Ducks are a team known for coming from behind:
“Why? Are they known for that? I didn’t know they were. I don’t know. No matter what, you have the lead, you don’t want to give it up.”

On whether the penalty kill early in the third was a turning point:
“Yeah, obviously. Every time somebody’s on the power play, it’s a chance for somebody to gain momentum, and if you kill it off, you gain a little bit. If you get a goal, obviously you’re going to get momentum. It goes both ways. We were able to kill it off, which was huge. We came back. We scored a couple big ones.”

On whether redemption was a factor, considering the previous loss to Anaheim:
“No, you’re just trying to win a game. That game’s in the past. You’re just trying to win a game. You start playing in the past, you’re not going to win many games. You just take it one game at a time.”

@jess, He’s totally in love with Fasth. Quick might as well be some other mediocre, nameless goalie (which is NOT)

Actually he has said some nice things about Quickie…
    Too my surprise..

@SLIM, Yeah. You can’t help but be impressed with some of the saves Quick made tonight. He did the incredible splits and covered the goal literally from one end to the other. Isn’t our goalie amazing?

JQ is the backbone of everything…this guy gave us the cup…he is still our only chance of rerpeating…JB is darn good in nets as well…and will be counted on to prove himself, but when it comes to crunch time…when it’s all on the line…give me JQ and i’ll beat ya most of the time

@Kings Fan In Temecula, He made me nervous by leaving his net so often. We’ve seen him burned by that before

    Kings Fan In Temecula Reply:

@soo-do-nihm, yep or playing the puck, its not his specialty

    [Reply]

    soo-do-nihm Reply:

@Kings Fan In Temecula, Surprisingly, Bernier is a lot better at playing the puck. He just doesn’t have Quick’s athleticism so Quick usually ends up as the better goalie.

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

@Kings Fan In Temecula, Where I favor Quick most is on breakaways.

    InTheCrease Reply:

@soo-do-nihm — I agree. He makes me extremely nervous when he leaves the crease. I’ve posted/commented on this before, as many of us have. The bottom line is that he’s not doing any of his teammates any favors when he comes out and chases the puck like that. In fact, most of the time, he’s just disrupting play and risking getting burned. Don’t the coaches see that? Are they afraid to tell him to just stay put for fear that he’ll start to pout? Does the King (emperor) with the goalie mask have no clothes?

that third period might have been the best period i have seen since the first period of game 6 last year…it was awesome

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

@g smith86, I think it had to be the best period this season, overall. They called the first period ugly on the telecast, but I thought it was very well played by both teams.

Ladies and gentlemen…YOUR Stanley Cup Champions turned in a total team effort this evening. It seems that every single guy on the ice produced at least one memorable play. More importantly, though, is that we’re seeing ever-tighter TEAM play. The timing has returned, as has the steady positional play, the efficient puck movement, good reads and bone crunching hits. It took awhile, but the machine that dominated its way to The Cup is very close to firing in tune on all cylinders.

@soo-do-nihm, It looks like alot of players are finally starting to get in game shape. Dont like to use that as an excuse but lets be honest here, alot of guys enjoyed being champions and I dont blame them.

    Robyn Reply:

@puck73, Yeah, I think they kinda let things slide during the lockout. I know Brown kept in shape over the summer and then he played in Switzerland but others just didn’t come to camp in shape. No excuse for VV, Nolan, Muzzin, DD2 or Kinger as they were all playing in Manch during the lockout.

Finally looks like King is showing up to the games. He got kicked off Gagne’s island.

    @puck73,

No, I can never compete in that freestyle jazz dance. But then again they have the advantage, I’m not doping.

The other advantage they have, is that they plasma-cut @duncanz trailer into sections, then re-assembled it in @phil’s mom’s basement. That’s a win-win. I got nothin on that.
