    Postgame notes summarized: King’s wore down the Duck’s regular season to dull nub.

    Things which are quick, produce more velocity than things which are Fasth.

    Captains who go by the last name of Brown create goals in clinch moments, but unto themselves are kinetic works of art.

    Souray’s get pummeled by these things called Nolan’s, which are way more gnar.

    Some little dude named voynov eats nails for breakfast.

    This guy called muzzy, has a rocket for a shot.

    And finally, the ducks have something known as feathers.

    Wow..that Souray/Nolan fight was awesome. When it started I was literally worried for Nolan. Souray is a big, tough guy. I think Fox said he’s got like 25 pounds on Nolan. But Nolan not only held his own, he won the bout. Awesome.

    the stanley cup champs finally showed up . great to see …. and great to see drewiske and muzzin playing so well ……. if they keep playing they way they are playing and maybe even improve with game after game experience – im not concerned about the defense at all ………. once martinez comes back and ellerby sits i fell the kings defense will only be a slight notch below where they were last season in the playoffs ……..

    drewiske is even bringing a little bit of unexpected offensive ability to his game ………… and muzzin of course is playing so solid right now in all phases pretty much …. and u got to love his shot …….. we already knew he had a great shot , but its nice to see him shoooti9ng even more as he gains more and more confidense …… second game in a row kopi is looking healthy …. great win

    MickSorley Reply:

    @phil sykes, Great point. On the other side of the coin, a quick one timer on a goalie going post to post can result in a nice juicy rebound to those same (would be) traffic players crashing the net. Hard for a goalie to control a rebound when hes moving side-to-side while trying to make a save.

    Of course, all of this is predicated on the shot actually getting on net.

    phil sykes Reply:

    @MickSorley, well , i think he was waiting for the traffic cuz u know he was so far out – at the point …. also he quite possibly was waiting for the puck to settle down or didnt have his feet set up to get the shot off quickly so he took his time ……….. at least hes better at getting point shots on goal that are dangerous than doughty – doughty had one real good blast on net that fasth shouldered away – but boy does doughty shoot hig or wide alot – and get it blocked alot

    dustin penner starting to play pretty well … thats a nice third line with the size with king ……. and u know lewis seems actually to be a good fit wiuth carts and richards ….. richards game is really picking up ……. so really all lewis has to do is use his great speed and just get the puck to carts or richards and let them get the quality chances … or he can put one on goal himself hoping carts or ritchie get the rebound

    only complaint ….. quick….. will u stay in the flogging net …. im sick of half the goals the other teams score are into empty unguarded nets because quick is off swimming somewhere … hes a much better goaltender in my opinion than bernier , but if he would play a more stay at home style , i feel his goals against would probably be below 1.50 every season ……… thats how good our defense is ……..

    when we score goals we have to shoot through the goaltender and beat him – earn it ….

    too many goals quick gives up are freebies and im sick of it – unguarded nets – off swimming somewhere 15 feet out of the net

    and yes , i am complaining about the current conn smythe trophy winner and vezzna finalist …. nobody is above criticism

    phil sykes Reply:

    @phil sykes, too many times the net is wide open while hes off swimming around somewhere while teams are trying to whack it in .. whether the teams score or not on the play , im just sick of seeing the mad scramble because the other team realizes ……”oh my god , the nets wide open hurry , hurry , shoot ” …. sometimes they cant get to it and score because our defense saves the day … but many times they do score into the unguarded net …. im just sick of the circus …. its been going on for too long …. i know its your style , quick , but it dosent mean i have to like it

But you know he was right before and in his postgame comments (about Ducks not having a chance in 3rd and Nolan kicking a pita Souray’s butt).

    I like it. This team needs to hear they are the Champs and have expectations and confidence. The rest of the guys are pretty politically correct. I’m sure I will the day will come when I want Doughty to be quiet but you can’t have it both ways.

    @blahblah, long as you can back it up I guess. Doughty has gone from a -11 plus/minus to a -6 in just a few games … mean while …

    Voynov is the top scoring defenseman on the team and is 5th on the ENTIRE team in points. Not to mention his +12 plus/minus rating is nearly double anyone else on the team.

    I think it’s safe to say that Nolan made some HUGE points with his team mates and coach with his fight.

    for example u dont see the coaching staff pairing voynov with any one of the 3 new guys do you ? ……. first he played with martinez and now scuds … there is a reason for that – last year mitchell ……… they are pairing doughty with all the scrubs because doughty is so good he can offset bad scrub play ……………im just saying ………………….. doughty is great ……. voynov is great ………. both ………. scuds , mitch , greene , martinez – also great … best 6 defensive core in the league ………….. and now muzzin and drewiske arent too far behind ………. loving this defensive depth ……………… ellerby not so much

    @KC23,

    Many of us said that the teams starting fast would come back to the fold, while the slow starters would gather momentum and either match or pass the fast starters. Chicago and Anaheim are do for big falls, and I think we just started Anaheim’s. That had to be a lonely bus ride back to Orange and Black land.

    [Reply]

    Shiny Reply:

    @DesertKing, I don’t know if Chicago will fold soon but I don’t believe they’ll make a strong stab at the Cup. I think they’ll end up like Vancouver where a supposed “mediocre” team will whoop their butts first round.

    [Reply]

    DesertKing Reply:

    @Shiny,

    I agree. Finesse teams like Chicago, Vancouver and Anaheim are pretty good in the individual regular season games, but grinding defense teams are the type that win series of games, aka, the playoffs. When Chicago and Anaheim, won their recent Cups, they did it with grinding defense, then they lost all of their players and switched to the finesse game. VanHoover has always played finesse style, always racks up an impressive regular season victory total, then hits the playoffs and gets worn down and out. The addition of Carter to our team gave us that one “finesse scorer” we needed to give our team a little offensive punch, ut without sacrificing our grinding defensive style. Kudos to DL for finding the perfect player for our team at just the right time.

    Shiny Reply:

    @DesertKing, Exactly. I was watching the first round Vancouver series from last April and even though the Canucks managed to score the first goal in the first 2 games, Kings literally wore down the Vancouver offense. And of course Brownie leveling Henrik Sedin didn’t hurt :-)

    KC23 Reply:

    @Shiny, both Chicago and the Ducks lack depth. Right now both are enjoying being healty. That rarely lasts in this league.

    vplaza Reply:

    @KC23,

    Always thought the Sharts weren’t for real this season. Still don’t. I also thought the Quacks were getting some lucky breaks to get to where they were. Time for them to come back down to earth, I think. Fasth is good, but not “elite” in my view.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @vplaza, Those two new Duck defensemen (Souray and Beauchemin) are a huge reason why the Ducks are where they are. Fasth looks like the real deal to me.

    [Reply]

    trytodethroneus Reply:

    @KC23,

    They already had beauchemin. They signed the pylon, allen, thinking “bigger is better”

    This ain’t porn.

    vplaza Reply:

    @KC23,

    I still think the Quacks aren’t for real. I’ll take DD, VV, Scuds, Muzz, DD2 over their top defensemen any night. And when AMart and Mitchell come back?

    And the Quacks GAA is mediocre, so they need to score a lot of goals to win games.

    bbb7 Reply:

    @KC23, Offensive-minded teams break from the gate quickly cause there’s little ‘system’ to what they do. Defensive teams need time to get into synch. Chicago seems to have some of both so they will continue to be formidable; the Ducks are slanted towards offense, as are Vancouver and Detroit at the present, so those three will come down a bit.

    RobSD Reply:

    @KC23,

    His -11 was worst in the league. He was 2nd in the league in playing time and the team wasn’t scoring at all. I would expect him to be back to or close to 0 in the next handful of games.

    He and VV have some serious still handling abilities on some of those rushes. VV is an elite defenseman and is only going to get better… maybe even better than DD. They are both so young… They say NHL defenseman aren’t matured until 25… that’s still several years away! Plenty of time for improvement. VV is gonna get a big raise next year, and well deserved.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @RobSD, I actually think Voynov is going to be better. Voynov is clearly smarter imho and that will be the difference. I think DD is a better stick handler and is better using his stick on defense, but Voynov is the better passer and shooter.

    Hate that the ducks fan I know won’t admit that the kings are better than the ducks and keeps saying Fasth is better than Quick and the stats show that the ducks are better!

    It’s not how you start it’s how you finish(;

    Random thoughts while waiting for a connecting flight:
    Many have ideas about taking point shots. Bottom line is that there are many considerations about when to let fly, and it’s not so simple. Goalie strengths/weaknesses is a likely factor, safe to say. Seems almost an art.
    Yeah, Hawks are off to their record start. And while they’re gonna be in the playoffs and the media says “All hail Chicago”, indeed there’s no guarantee that they will escape the first round.
    If Chi faces the level of play that we saw last night against the Anaheim Pukes, they’re in for it.
    Lastly, Nolan turned Sheldon into a Souray mess.
