On where his line’s increased production is coming from:
“I don’t know. We’re playing well as a line and [have been] winning a lot of puck battles lately. Richie’s doing a great job of finding me. Lewie’s doing a great job of getting on pucks in the forecheck and turning them over for us. I’m just kind of hanging out in the slot, and it’s been working.”
On Trevor Lewis’ success on the left side of the line:
“He’s been working real hard for us. Even when he wasn’t scoring, he was getting opportunities and creating chances. When you’re doing that, it’s just a matter of time before the puck’s going to go in the net.”
On the importance of getting an early goal considering the team’s occasional sluggishness in home day games:
“[The Kopitar line] did a great job of starting it off for us. I think their first four or five shifts, they were all over them there in their zone. When you see that, the team just kind of feeds off it. It’s not easy coming home after a big road trip, and playing an afternoon game at home sometimes you come out a little slow. But we did a great job of coming out hard, winning battles and kind of putting ‘em back on their heels.”
On whether the team is gaining momentum:
“Yeah. I think this was a pretty solid game for us. It’s nice for us to get more than two or thre goals. That’s a plus. I think things have started to come around. It’s still a work in progress.”
On the importance of taking advantage of the home-heavy schedule:
“It’s huge. It’s arguably the biggest stretch of the season. When you get a stretch like this at home, you really have to take advantage of it. We’ve only played 16, 17 games, but we’re running out of time here. There aren’t many games left. We’ve got to get down to it.”
Jeff was fly’n today.

@Dominick, a strong effort by all his mates, but Carts was easily the best player on the ice today…

@brian spain, great block by Stoll, which lead to Lewis’s shortie…

Down note: Living in the “Altitude” regional broadcast area, I have to watch any games against the Avs on that channel. Altitude is a joke. They missed bits of the action, got facts simply wrong on multiple occasions, and though the two on-air personalities are respectful and professional, the entire rest of the broadcast team fails to be ready for prime time.
The worst of it came as they talked through pre-game analysis during the time Ian Laperriere (who played four seasons in Colorado) was being honored. They never even MENTIONED that Lappy. Then they went to “other action around the league.” I kept thinking they were holding up because they planned to play the whole thing during the intermission or something. Never happened. What a shameful telecast!

Instead of “the two on-air personalities” I should have said “the play-by-play guy and color guy.”

On this site this year I have complained about our forwards getting in to deep for scoring chances but JC seems to have that sense to stay high and get a higher percentage shot off. #77 and #10 are on fire. GO KINGS GO!!!

@Forum Gold,
I said the same thing last week after watching the Penguins game. Malkin and Crosby and those around them stay high in the slot. The Kings drive to the net.
Maybe the coaches read our comments. LOL
Caution to the Kings… the quacks play the same style of offense as the Pens. Thats why there are scoring a lot. Kings need to be aware of the high slot. The quacks also originate alot of their scoring chances from behind the net. Chase them to the corner and watch the high slot. Those are my unsolicited cough potato keys to Monday’s game.

@UglyinLA, Maybe we can get lucky and Simon Gagne will read this. I agree, the Quacks need to be pushed to a perimeter game and cut off the cross ice passes. GO KINGS GO!!!

When every Kings player is on their game they’re unbeatable.

He would never do this for CBJ

You keep right on hanging out in that slot!

That line is on fire! Brilliant coaching move by Sutter to put Lewie up there with ‘em.

@DY, Yeah, it seems like his speed is just what that line needed. As you said— brilliant.

I heard the first two periods and saw the third. The great start was there, and although the third period was scoreless, it was amazing to watch. The Avs needed 3 goals, and for extended stretches, they couldn’t get out of their own end. Even without a goal to show for it, the Kings forechecking and cycling was SCF quality. Clearing our own zone, there were a couple of hiccups here and there, but the puck was usually out in 5-10 seconds.
Almost no need to resurface the Kings’ end after the third.
