No Martinez on the ice

Alec Martinez has not taken the ice at the Toyota Sports Center this morning as he looks to return from an upper body injury suffered in St. Louis on February 11. More to come following today’s practice.

@gboi, well he was only supposed to be on IR for a week so I think a lot of people were expecting, or at least hoping, to see him on the ice today. He didn’t travel with the guys on their road trip because he had to stay home and get healthy.

@tornado12, I’m cautious about this group right now. Avs are going to be super confident coming off a shutout over STL and they’re very fast. Our guys tend to struggle with speedy teams. If they can remember what they did in EDM, they should be fine but we’ll see.

    [Reply]

    Mars Reply:

@Robyn, Brown will slow them down, I expect to see a physical in the way game with lots of poke checking. The Avs didnt see a strong effort from STL like they will from us.

Brown needs to start the game strong, make sime hits, Cliffy will follow suit and Stoll will as well. the Fras. If we have one hitter on each line we will be good. DS should keep the line pairings similiar to what was used on the slicks.

    [Reply]

    tornado12 Reply:

@Robyn, good points, but as you mentioned I think they contained EDM speed well (outside of some moments with the young Dmen on the outside). EDM and COL are very similar teams (as seen by their recent 6-4 shootout game), but COL sure has had the Kings number in the recent past, so lets hope the Kings can change that trend tomorrow

Nice to see AMart skating around. Hope he makes it back into the lineup soon.

And on a completely unrelated topic, I checked out this Player of the Month thing and I was a bit surprised at how many of the votes so far are on JMFC’s favor. Last check, he had 57% of the votes. I was just more surprised that VMFV was not closer to JC since Voynov has been working his butt off on the blue line.

I was hoping Marty would be back for Saturday but I guess it is best for him to be sure. As for Willie, I relate to him because I had a “relatively simple” knee surgery that ended up having weird complications in recovery. The doctors and physical therapists all said everything was good and I should be able to do all that I did before but it just didn’t “feel” right. I know what that is like if that is what he is experiencing. I sure do miss him back there but understand his position.

    [Reply]

    Robyn Reply:

@LT21, I can relate to the knee thing, too. I had an ACL surgery over the summer and I still don’t have the flexibility that I used to have pre-surgery. It’s definitely a bitch and a half coming back from a join injury, especially one that bears a lot.of weight and takes a lot of abuse.

From the quotes I read, it sounds like Marty is doing everything he can to get back in the lineup quickly, but needs to be cleared first and has not yet been cleared. Hopefully he gets it soon.

Any of you guys have any suggestions or tips for using an Android on this blog?

On the road last week and this thing was giving me fits with this text box and zooming.

Last year Rich talked about changing to something else. Most agreed it was pretty good already. Maybe WordPress has a mobile maximized of the same thing to go along with the desktop version.

Which browser are you using? I’ve used Chrome and Dolphin and Chrome seems to be better. You’re right, though, the text box for replies can be a pain since it doesn’t resize to the screen properly. The text from existing posts resizes properly though.

    @LA_1968,

I haven’t had any issues with my Galaxy S3 and Dolphin browser. It’s not my computer, but I use this almost exclusively and have no big complaints. I could even install Flash Player so I can do & view everything my computer can.

There’s workarounds for almost every issue with Android I’ve found. Just a different method of doing things than from normal computer thinking.

@LA_1968, not sure what type of DROID you have, but I have a RAZR that I use when I’m supposes to be working and it, too, has some issues with the text box and zooming. I have the same problems on my SII and SIII. I don’t think that matters. It perhaps could be better depending on what operating system or update if using the stock browser.

Wordpress looks to have an app but it seems to be compatible with WordPress v3 and this should be v2 on this blog. So no dice there.

  16. The new defense is playing as well can be expected, but if we don’t get some of these guys back on defense then I think the Kings will make a move. We aren’t going deep in the playoffs with those three (again, they are doing fine), I think they will consider moving Bernier.

    [Reply]

    LT21 Reply:

@Pasadena Hockey, I normally would agree but I think this season has presented a couple of special issues. For one, with such a compact schedule it is good to have a solid backup goalie. Second, it has been stated all over the NHL hockey world that a top 4 defenseman is extremely hard to get right now due to injuries. I don’t think Bernier’s stock could pull that right now. I agree that we need something a little extra on D but we can’t make a hole to fill another one. DL has stated there is no prospect goalie ready to step into the NHL right now in their system. Unless DL can somehow snag a cheap veteran goalie that comes in with the knowledge that they are strictly back up to Quick then I don’t see them trading Bernier during the season.

    [Reply]

    Pasadena Hockey Reply:

@LT21, You could be right, certainly the compact schedule is an issue. I think Bernier is pushing Quick a bit and the time Quicker has had off is much needed for practice. However, you do need to take some risks, Bernier is a #1 caliber goalie. His value is going up with each game. Your right, goalies and defensemen are hard to find.
It seems like the Duck got a steal with the contract with Victor Fasthe.
One last thing, he doesn’t have a contract with the Kings but go Colton Yellow Horn. He wowed us all with the Reign, now show the Monarch’s that little man can play too…

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

@Pasadena Hockey, If some team wants a potential franchise goalie in his prime like Bernier, Guess what? They better be willing to give up quite a bit before DL makes a move like that.

    [Reply]

    Robyn Reply:

    E. @Pasadena Hockey, moving Bernie would be a huge mistake for Kings.

He’s performing well and they need a backup because Quick can’t carry the entire goaltending load by himself. That said, you may be right that they’ll try to move someone. Just don’t know if we have anyone valuable enough to trade at the moment.

    [Reply]

    Deke'r Reply:

@Robyn, ….I have to agree….the more I see Bernie play the better I like him…there’s a certain air of calm with Bernie you don’t get with JQ….maybe cause he as yet has not let in the “complementary” goal a game that JQ is famous for?…Also think it settles the D men as well….

    [Reply]

    bbb7 Reply:

@Pasadena Hockey, I dont see why the constant urge to trade Bernier. IF we were to trade him it would be from a position of strength, not one of trying to temporarily shore up our D. Muzzin and Ellerby and Drewiske are just getting their mettle tested sooner rather than later, so let’s give them a chance.

    [Reply]

    Pasadena Hockey Reply:

@bbb7, Bernier asked to be traded before the season and this is the last year of his contract. If the defense needs to be shored up then who else would you move of value? Shoring up the defense wouldn’t be a temporary move, the thought here would be that it would spark stability, offense and bring us another championship.
I don’t necessarily want to move Bernier either, but without Green and Mitchell, we are in trouble. Mitchell is one of the most underrated players in the NHL, IMO.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

@Pasadena Hockey, The one big sticking point about moving Bernier atm is who replaces him? Jones in Manchester doesn’t appear ready. I don’t think Bernier is going to be move before the end of the season myself.

    [Reply]

    Pasadena Hockey Reply:

@KC23, Well we sure aren’t privy to the info on Mitchell. I don’t think it is re-occurring concussion issues, but the fact that he still isn’t back has to lead you to think something is really not right. It is strange in this day and age not to have any kind of timetable for that kind of an injury.
