On the strong defensive effort over the previous two games:
“Yeah, the goalies both played great the last two games. The defense has been doing well. We’re playing well defensively. It starts with moving pucks well. We’re doing a good job with that. We’re getting pucks up to the forwards and letting them get in on the forecheck, and that’s what we’ve got to continue to do.”
On Jonathan Bernier’s performance:
“He made some big saves the whole game. A lot of times when the puck was coming at the net, he was holding onto it. Those rebounds are usually where teams can capitalize, and he minimized those to the best of his ability. He was awesome tonight.”
On playing with multiple defensive partners:
“I thought that all of us played well tonight. I thought that every single D-man was on their game. That was a big part of why we were successful.”
On Calgary’s challenges at advancing the puck:
“Our neutral zone forecheck is key. We’ve got to take away their speed and match their intensity, and that’s what we did.”
Drew is helping all 4 new defencemen. This is by far his best season and showing leadership we never expected.

@jet,
You’re right, he’s taking on vet-like responsibilities via circumstance, and it’s making him a better player.

@jess, That +/- has got to go down though. It may be slightly misleading because of the number of minutes he’s played and who he has to match up against, but still…….

@HockeyNerd, was mentioning that on another thread regarding the Carter for JJ trade. I love seeing -17 gone, but don’t think we need a -10 to replace it!

@HockeyNerd, he is contunially paired up with a defenceman with little experience. the plus/minus is a useless stat in this case.
I’m not impressed with DD just yet. Not at all.

@KC23, agreed…the most over-rated player in the NHL….VV should be getting the Big Bucks, not DD…

@KC23,
So take away DD and what do we have? He’s still the best all-around Dman we have. Voynov is playing great but that’s because of DD being the backbone.

@MK Ultra, I’ll give you the +10 to balance you out. I agree with you completely. Not to mention voynov has not looked especially sharp the last couple games.

@MK Ultra, Gotta concur with the -10 people. VV has been a rock, and Dewey, not so much.

As long as the Kings keep winning DD can wait till the playoffs to go off for all I care. He scores when it counts most. He’s a close second as MVP for this team right behind Carter so far.

looks like kings may not be done getting the D.
